How to add conversion tracking to Ajax form?

I'm trying to track every time a user submits his information via an Ajax form. I tried to do it by adding the following code to the submit button: _trackEvent(lead, submit, userinfo)

Since that didn't seem to work, I tried using the tag manager and I followed the instructions in this post. I did install the tag manager code on every page. I'm not sure if I set up the tags right but I followed those instructions as closely as I could. The post's date is 2013 after all.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you!
