How do I improve my CTR?

Hi guys

I'm very new to all this and have watched a few tutorials about increasing the CTR on keywords. Most of my bids are below the first page bid so I am increasing the ones that are not too high. I noticed that my CTR are high on the keywords that get the least impressions and clicks. I'm not sure how to increase the CTR on the keywords with higher impressions other than increase bid, has anyone got any tips?

Lisa

Hi Lisa
This is a HUGE area and there are literally hundreds of things that you can do to increase your CTR.

I'd start with this great article by Kim, a fellow TC : https://www.en.adwords-community.com/t5/User-Articles/AdWords-Click-Through-Rates-CTR-Evaluating-and...

Also, here's one by Zee, one of our community managers: https://www.en.adwords-community.com/t5/User-Articles/Get-the-basics-right-One-quick-step-to-improve...

Check out the "Articles" link in the menu and do a search for "increase CTR". The section is choc full of useful articles on the topic. Rather than reinvent the wheel, I'll just refer you there. Others have put it better than I could Smiley Happy

Hope that's helpful.

This certainly is a huge area as Dave suggests. Because you're a beginner I would suggest starting with the fundamentals: Ensure that there is a strong relevancy between the keywords you're targeting, the ads that those keywords trigger and the all-important landing page. If all 3 are in harmony you're off to a great start.

There is no question that bidding higher could result in a better CTR as you climb position and potential customers see your ad more often, but I wouldn't be too quick to bid higher until you've mastered the basics. I might suggest using Quality Score as litmus test of how well you're doing as far as relevancy is concerned.

Just a quick note on bidding higher.

Please note that your CTR, as it appears to Google when determining your quality score, is normalized to your position. This is very important to understand. For each position on the page you occupy, Google expects your CTR to be in a certain range for that position. Bidding higher does nothing for that CTR, only shift you into another position even higher where your expected CTR is expected to be higher.

As Jon mentioned, nail the basics first.
