Help for Remarketing - Beginner!

Hi there! I'm new to remarketing and I don't fully understand how it all works.

  1. How can I know if I have enough cookies?
  2. How many cookies do I need to start making ads?
  3. What is the difference between having 100 cookies and having 1000?
  4. How do I follow people once I have their cookie?
  5. How does Google get demographics?
  6. When do demographics show up?
  7. What does "Unavailable - Display Only" mean?
  8. Why are there new lists (that I didn't make) that are called "Similar Lists"?

I really tried going through all of Google's tutorials but I can't seem to find the answer to each of my questions. I don't what else to do.

TIA for those who help!

  1. How can I know if I have enough cookies?

Shared Library in adwords show list count.

How many cookies do I need to start making ads?

you can make ads at any time and create the account, they just won't trigger to target until the list is avlaiable  / reaches the limits

What is the difference between having 100 cookies and having 1000?

Depends on which format of Remarketing script setups you are using whether it's from adwords (100) or from an Analytics  tag ( 1000)

How do I follow people once I have their cookie

you don't the system does it for you by displaying the ads

How does Google get demographics

Not sure what you mean here

When do demographics show up?

Not sure what you mean here

What does "Unavailable - Display Only" mean?

It can only be used in the Display only Campaigns, not Search, Not Search and Display, Not Youtbe etc. You determine in account setting which type of campaign you want to run.

Why are there new lists (that I didn't make) that are called "Similar Lists"?

Allows you a create a list based on similar characteristics of those that are already on your list.  You have a sample size of X with Y data, the similar lists looks to capture a larger sample of people that also have those same  X and Y characteristics

For demographics I believe you're talking about reporting and maybe targeting based on age/gender.
