Geo targeting the country and the cities in the country in the same adgroup

I saw someone set up the campaign with targeting the country and the cities in the same country. Just wondering would Google show ads only to those cities or the whole country?

Thanks.

Hi Sean,

You can set multiple targeting locations... if that is what they did. However, when entering a city, you also enter a state and country, which allows for correct targeting since city names are duplicated many times over. So if I targeted my hometown with an ad, I would use: Panama City Beach, Florida, United States as the geo target. In this instance my ads would be shown to Panama City Beach (a city with the state of Florida. A state within the country USA). If I wanted to target all of the USA, I would not include a city or state (United States). Or I wanted to target a state, I would not include any cities (Florida, United States).

Kind Regards,

James

Geo targeting the country and the cities in the country in the same adgroup

Hi James,

Thanks for answering my question. I probably didn't elaborate my question very clear.

They were using geo targeting for several locations. But usually, when you do so, you would only choose several specific locations you want to target, but they selected those locations and then select the country again, for example:

New Jersey, United States (state)

United States(country)

Los Angeles, California, United States (city)

I was wondering, with this setting, would Google still just targets people in New Jersey and Los Angeles and ignores the second oneUnited States(country)? or whether Google would target those two locations, and also the whole country (which actually means no geo-target)?

Thanks.

Hi Sean,

You are very welcome.

In the example you show, targeting would be all of the United States and the other regions, too. This would be considered geo-targeting with multiple locations.

Kind Regards,

James

Hi James,

Apparently, i have same question of Sean's.
As you said it will "targeting would be all of the United States and the other regions, too."
California and Los Angeles comes under United States, will Google show more ad rotation if we specifically mention California and Los Angeles? And less ad rotation in other states and cities as we haven't mentioned in Geo-targeting but rather the whole country United States?

Hope I am clear with my question?
