Excluding Audiences from Search Campaigns, does it work?

Hello all,

From the text on this page about : Exclude specific audiences from an ad group

It says

Audience exclusions are available only for these campaign types:

  • "Display Network only - Remarketing"
  • "Display Network only - All features"
  • "Search & Display Networks - All features"

Question 1:   Now since there is a new "Search Network with Display Select", I was wondering if Excluding audiences also work for

a) "Search Network Only" campaigns ( a natural asumption since Targeting audiences in these campaigns works under certain conditions)

b) "Search Network with Display Select"

Question 2 :  If exclusion does not work for Search, how are we supposed to exclude already converted visitors or those who bounce , when setting up a Campaign for "Remarketing Lists In Search" ?

Why am I asking , you might wonder : because the interface allows exclusion of audiences even for an ad group in a Search Campaign , without any warning that it might not produce the expected Exclusion .

Question 1: Now since there is a new "Search Network with Display Select", I was wondering if Excluding audiences also work for

a) "Search Network Only" campaigns ( a natural asumption since Targeting audiences in these campaigns works under certain conditions)

b) "Search Network with Display Select"

Answer: Remarketing lists are not available for "Search Network only - Standard" or "Search & Display Networks - Standard" campaigns.

Question 2 : If exclusion does not work for Search, how are we supposed to exclude already converted visitors or those who bounce , when setting up a Campaign for "Remarketing Lists In Search" ?

Answer:

Create a custom combination list

If your website attracted visitors, but they didn't convert, you can set up a remarketing list to attract those customers back to your site.

Custom combination lists can help you target visitors who didn't convert, while excluding any visitors who did convert. If you already have a list targeting all visitors to your website, create a remarketing list for people who've already completed a conversion on your website. Set up your custom combination list to reach visitors to your site while excluding the visitors who already converted.

Thanks. I would like to request a clarification.

What do you mean by

Remarketing lists are not available for "Search Network only - Standard" ?

I know that we can use as Targeting, Remarketing audiences For Search Network only campaigns, read from here :

https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/2701222?hl=en

This to me , means the exact opposite, that is "remarketing lists ARE available for "Search Network only - Standard"

[edit]

Regarding answer 2 :

Targeting in a Search Campaign a custom combination will not work as a complete exclusion for converting visitors.

The only outcome of using a "custom combination" will be a higher keyword bid for non-converting visitors, on their 2nd visit. Visitors who converted will still see the Ad just as any other visitors who never visited the site at the normal bid.

But just now an ideea came to me, I could create an audience just for converting visitors, use it as targeting in a Search campaign but with a bid adjustment of -99%, this should render the keyword bids for these visitors close to zero and prevent ads from triggering.

What do you think about this setup as a "work around" for exclusion ?
