Hi VIrendra,

The most basic difference here is that 'Event tracking' is a feature you can setup in your Google Analytics account for your website where as 'Conversion Tracking' is something that you set up via your AdWords account. But 'Conversion Tracking' is also possible through Google Analytics but you need to have the GA code placed on your website as a prerequisite.

Events are essentially actions taken by users that you wish to track on your website and conversions as you must already know is a successful user action on the website such as a form fill or a document download, etc.

If you are a good enough at understanding Google Analytics and can code or atleast understand the logic behind setting up an event, you can use this to set up events to record conversions as well. Basically, your events will be set up as Goals in GA and then these Goals can be easily imported in to AdWords as conversions.

Here are some good links on Events & Event Tracking:

Some more clarity on the different type of events that can be setup as goals in GA:

Do give the links a read and let us know if you need any more clarity on this topic.

Hope this Helps!

Hi Shashank,

I wonder if you can help:

I am trying to use an event tag to track conversions on our site:
onclick=ga('send', 'event', 'form-submit', 'click')

This is for a form that does not have a thank you page and only verifies the form was sent with some text.
They are using javascript so it's not your typical set up to place the tag within the form:
<a href="javascript&colon;void(0);" id="ctl01_aFormSubmit" class="btn btn-primary save pull-left" title="Submit">
Submit</a>

Can anyone tell me how I would I apply the event tag in this case?

Thank you!

It's an old thread, but in case someone is still looking for an answer. For tracking a form, you can include this into your confirmation text.

<script type="text/javascript> onClick="onclick=ga('send', 'event', 'form-submit', 'click')" </script>;

The code will not be shown in your confirmation text but will trigger the event tracking.
