Domain names and punctuation in negative keywords?

I've seen some discussion on this but cannot find anything definitive, so looking for input. Is there any value to adding a web address as a negative keyword? The . and - in phrases aren't recognized are they? If people are searching for a domain, they will get right to that domain. In trying to weed out searches for businesses that use a lot of the same keywords as me, but have totally different potential customers -- is there any value to adding the domain of those businesses as negatives? My sense is there would NOT be -- but somebody suggested doing this. Any thoughts? Thanks!

To negative a web address in a search campaign you will write it as "granitecountersrus com" or "www seashellstore" or if you can afford to, just negative out net, com, gov, edu, biz, www, http, https. Your ad will only show if they misspell the address in a web address box that defaults to Google or a search partner, or mistakenly type the correct address in the search-only bar.

Hi Jeff M,

Google generally ignores all punctuation and spaces. "granitecountersrus.com" is the same as "granitecountersrus com" and "granitecountersruscom".

Have you noticed a lower CTR on your ad when the search term was the website of a competitor? If not, you may be missing an opportunity to attract one of your competitor's customers to your site.

Best of Luck,!
