Does the bidding CPC stay same across devices such as computers, mobiles and tablets in enhanced campaign or we can bid differently?

Thanks in advance

Hello naushin h ,

By default the bid is the same, you can adjust the mobile bid ad described here :

Computers and tablets are not separated, you can only set bids for both at the same time.

Hi Naushin,

These are two buckets - mobiles in one - pc and tablets in the other.

The simplest way to understand how it works is that you set a bid for the pc/tablet bucket.

If you do nothing else the mobile bucket will use the same bid - but you can increase the mobile bid by up to 300% or decrease it by up to -100%.... what this basically means is that if you decrease by 100% no ads will show on mobiles.

If you set the pc/tablet bid to be very low you will effectively eliminate much if not all of their traffic - or at least push their ads so far down the pages that the clicks will be minimal - and then boost the mobile bid by 300% to get the bids on mobiles - this is the workaround for a "mobile only2 campaign. It's not mobile only and it doesn't mean you will get no clicks from pc's but it's the best you can do with EC.

There is such unrest in the ppc world about not being able to separate tablets and pc's that (if Google are listening) it is likely that in the not too distant future tablets will also get their own bid adjustment, but for the time being it is only mobiles

My guess is that Google will offer tablet exclusion after they enable Google Analytics beta for all users which tracks multi-device conversions. At that point you will not want to drop tablets because there will be a tool to measure how much they contribute in the multi-channel funnel.

It would just be nice to have a choice!

You are right - some people will love tablets over other devices. But even if they do, they would most likely want to be able to manage a different bid. If tablets work well for you then you'd want to bid aggressively.

What makes no sense to most people I'm speaking to or reading blogs from - is that Google seem to be saying that pc's and tablets are the same thing in terms of user behavior - when they are clearly not.

A person in a shopping mall checking the price of something online on a tablet whilst standing in front of the physical product is not the same as someone looking at that same web page at home later in the evening. If nothing else the immediacy is a massive factor - and with bid adjustments available at so many points in the process the permutations are endless.

Honestly, I don't know why tablets were not segmented out in the same way that pc's were with enhanced campaigns - it feels as if Google suspected that we would all simply drop tablets with a -100% bid from day 1.......
