Display Network Ad Campaign

Hi all!

I've just launched my first Display Network Campaign where I set up 2 Ad Groups - one with Key Words targeting (Target and Bid) and the other with Topic targeting (Target and Bid) and Placements (Bid only) as I would like to see which way of targeting is best for my ad. Both groups are targeted also with Age. My goal is to get a lot of impressions that would hopefully lead to clicks on ad which leads to Landing page.

What do you think about my strategy of targeting? Is it ok to try out these two ways and what are you predictions about impressions?

Any help is welcome! =)

Thank you in advance!

Anja

Hello,

AdWords is all about experimentation and getting to the point which brings you results in terms of what your actual goal is.

As per your post, it looks like you want to get lot many impressions to your ads. I am not sure if you are looking for Brand upliftment of your website. If that's the case, you might be interested in choosing CPM bidding methodology for your business: https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/2472725

You also need to understand that at one time only one ad per keyword or per placement is eligible to show during the ad auction from your account.

So in your case of setting, you can first accumulate the data and then analyse which way is working best for you in terms of impressions, relevant placements etc...Based on that, you can further fine tune your campaign.

Here's the basic guide which clarifies more on how an advertiser should go about optimizing on GDN: https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/2580399?hl=en&ref_topic=3121944

Hey Pankaj,

thank you for your answer. I know I need to try out different tactics to see which of them is working for me, but I was asking if my tactic is optimal to start with or would you recommend some other targeting techniques for a beginner like me?

Could you please explain what did you mean by:
"You also need to understand that at one time only one ad per keyword or per placement is eligible to show during the ad auction from your account", because I am not sure I understand it? (My campaign has 2 ad groups and each of them has 1 ad.)

Hello;

I agree with Pankaj on that;

I incline to use more than one targeting method on the display network;

My favorite is to use keywords in conjunction with at least one  additional targeting method (e.g. Topics, placements) to narrow the targeting audience to relevant users.

Otherwise, your "audience reach" could be too broad and, in this case, as Pankaj suggested, CPM could be the preferred strategy

Great! Thank you Moshe! I'll see what will happen now and next time I will try with CPM strategy.
