Display Ads - No impressions in managed placements

Hi there,

I started a campaign with managed placements, I am not getting any impressions for some urls.

The following message is being displayed when I hover over the speech bubble.

"The combination of your current campaign settings and targeting criteria do not appear to have enough Google AdSense pageviews to be meaningfully diagnosed."

Can someone explain what this means?

How contextual targeting and placement targeting work together on GDN

Hello again iboy;

This happens on the "display network" when you  choose: "Show ads only on pages that match all selected targeting methods"

When you include both placements and keywords, the system searching for relevent pages on a list of sites, that you have selected (= placement targeting), AND in those sites, it looks for relevent pages that match the keywords chosen (= contextual targeting).

If those BOTH conditions do not meet (i.e. relavent pages based on keywords on the list of placement targeting), the end result is: your ad, not shown at all .

(In Boolean algebra we call it an "empty group": Group A - placement targeting, AND group B - contextual targeting, do NOT have anything in common !)

You could go and change to "Automatic placements: Show ads on pages that match the broadest targeting method ", but then, there is the risk, your ads will appear on many irrelevant sites. (Too broad contextual targeting).

What I would recommend, is to broaden the list of "placement targeting" sites, to include more sites, that may have pages with (contextual) content, that matches the keywords.

iboy;

I'm not quite sure on that:  my recollection is that there isn't a report of all sites that don't allow your ads to appear (e.g competitiors sites)...

If you think on that; it does make sense, that sites do not disclose businesses / competitors that are blocked to advertise.
