Cross Domain Split Testing and Conversion Tracking

Hey Everyone,

I'm helping out a friend who owns a resort in Thailand. His website uses the booking button from siteminder. When someone books they leave his website and go to the bookingbutton domain.

I had a few problems tracking conversions and I was hoping to find some help here and do it right.

Here is what I want to do:

Split Test 2 pages

http://www.goodtime-resort.com/test/

http://www.goodtime-resort.com/book-2/

In the booking button admin I can input the following data for tracking:

Google Analytics ID

Adwords Conversion ID

Conversion Label

I cannot enter the entire code, only those pieces of the code.

When someone goes from the hotel website they go to this page:

https://www.thebookingbutton.com.au/goodtimesresort/properties/gtrdirect

If I split test those 2 pages with the experiment feature in analytics and I send visitors with Adwords. Will that track conversion over the 2 domains, even if I can only add the Analytics ID, Conversion ID and label?

I read that in order o track cross domain you need to modify the code.

Hope to get some help. Will be grateful.

Hi Timmy,

Did you try the cross domain tracking methodology mentioned in Analytics help center where you can use Google Analytics to track the scenario you are explaining:

Hi Pankaj,

The problem is I can not alter the code on the booking button website, I can only add these:
Google Analytics ID
Adwords Conversion ID
Conversion Label

The code is added automatically

On the hotel website I can alter it of course.

Hi Timmy D,

The AdWords conversion code works with a 3rd party cookie. There is no special code to add for cross-domain tracking of the AdWords conversion. If you wanted the activity on the checkout site tracked in your Analytics account, then you would need the cross-domain tracking code.

Sounds to me like this should work fine.

Best of Luck!

No I didn't. Support isn't very helpful also.

Kind regards,
Timmy

Just incase someone else stumbles across this thread, the Booking Button has just put something up on their site about this type of topic : https://thebookingbutton.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/202494650-Google-Analytics-With-Source-Attrib...

I've not used this yet but hope to put it in place soon.
