Clickbank

I saw a youtube video about how to set up an ad that displays a url for a site but then the site it goes to is a hoplink for clickbank affiliate.  Is that allowed?  I tried to set up an ad for my website that has links to a variety of sites, amazon ebooks and more but it was not approved.  I thought clickbank hoplinks were not allowed in adwords but would love any feedback.  As you can probably tell, I am new to this entire adwords setup.

Thanks

Hi golfprochiro,

Affiliate marketing is discouraged, but I think it is still allowed. The trick is the display URL must point to the destination URL domain after all redirects. So, you set up your ad for amazon ebooks. In the destination URL, put your clickbank hoplink. The display URL must say "amazon.com" if that's the domain where you end up. The sub-domain is optional. If you use it, it must also match the actual desination domain.

The display URL is not required to be a reachable page, so you can use it for additional promotional text (but not much!).

The problem you will face is that Google will only show one ad per display domain. So, if other advertisers are using the same keywords you will have to outbid them to get impressions. If Amazon itself is advertising the will likely get much higher quality scores.

Affiliate marketing is extremely competitive. I'd think twice before getting into this.

Best of Luck!

Thanks for the feedback.  I really only wanted to have an ad that would link to my website and thought that was the whole purpose of adwords.  If I just want to have an ad promoting my ebook on amazon I guess I could link to my author page.  Smiley Happy

Hello golfprochiro;

It is great that you ask before starting with affiliate programs. If you run a quick search, using the search box of this Community, you'll find many discussions of those who did not ask / check before starting (to advertise an affiliate program), and ended up with an account suspension.

In general, Google's Policy approves affiliate programs. However, Google is not a "great fan" of affiliate programs. Though not admitting in public, Google considers many of affiliate sites, as low quality content (sites), with a single goal, of redirecting traffic to another site (for buying), without any valuable content/ experience to users. Statistically, many affiliate advertisers who signed up with ClickBank, found themselves suspended. (Run a Google search about "AdWords ClickBank" - you'll get a full history log of "relationships", between Google and ClickBank)

As Pete suggested, I would be very cautious, before advertising an affiliate using AdWords.

Hi golfprochiro,

Setting it up with a link to your website that links to Amazon is a little different. The key to this is to provide unique content on your landing page, something that adds value to the page. The conversion can go through your Amazon store if you want to do it that way.
