Hi Smugglestone,

You most certainly can.  It's called Ad Scheduling.  You can view a step by step here: http://support.google.com/adwords/answer/2404244/?hl=en

Please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with.

If you have a B&M business and you want to be there when people go to your site - then you can set the scheduling to run your ads only when your business is open.

For most people, however, scheduling is something you need to be careful with. And you should probably run some wider scheduling before limiting the ads to what you think is going to work best. Why? Because your traffic may actually show that the "out of hours" traffic performs better.

I had a client who sold confectionery online... we identified a group of visitors we called the "Night Owls" - these were people who were basically shopping for candy at 4am!

There weren't very many of them (no surprise there) but we found that their per visit value was around 25% higher than the average visitor!

This is a bit of an extreme situation, but it underlines the need for testing. You may also want to use rules for increasing the bids at prime times and reducing at others.

Of course, when you move "out of hours" the competition is reduced as your competitors may be scheduling their ads. That means that you could get more traffic at a lower cost. If you can, you then need to determine if that traffic is worth chasing in ROI terms.

Hi Smugglestone, stickleback makes a very good point.  I've seen lots of scheduling that's based upon the "obvious" times the Ads should run and where some research has proven that there were rich pickings to be had outside of those hours.

As always, don't base your schedule purely upon the obvious; make sure you examine real data, over a decent period of time, and then apply the implications of that data and then monitor the results to make sure they're moving in the right direction.

I also suggest to do a Day and Time Parting. This is possible within the campaign in the Dimension tab while adding a segment of Hour of day within the report.
