CPM in the Display Network

Hi Lovely Community,

If CPC and CPM ads compete with each other in the same display network auction, what would it be based on?

1. Location targeting

2. keyword match types

3. ad rank

4. language targeting

I am not sure about this question but, tried to look it up but still not sure which one. Would it be ad rank?

Warm Regards,

Vilac

Hello Steve T ! Welcome to the Community !

As Karl from Google explained in this post, there is no point in promoting the same thing with CPC and CPM at the same time as they serve different purposes

https://www.en.adwords-community.com/t5/Set-up-and-basics/CPM-Bidding/m-p/17629/highlight/true#M2756

What type of business do you need to promote with AdWords that would require both types of campaigns at the same time ?

However this article attempts to explain the situation you described

Just quoting :

"

How CPM and CPC bids compete

Ads with different bid types can compete for the same Display Network placements.

To keep things fair, when CPC and CPM ads compete for the same Display Network placement, the two types of ads are compared apples-to-apples on how much they're effectively willing to pay for the impression. With a CPM ad, the max CPM bid represents how much the advertiser is willing to pay for each 1000 impressions; with a CPC ad, Google estimates how many clicks the ad might receive in 1000 impressions to get the comparison."

Hi Steve,

To add on Adrian's Message, It is best practice to create separate campaigns for CPC and CPM model.

You can measure the performance and compare the results with some logical results coming up.

Thanks,

these messages often  we get  while  updating for  some tests  .But,In my View for  every   ads  compete  each other  their  quality score  come to  existence.location  and  language  ,keywords  match types  not  related to  QS.so,There  adrank come to existence based on  QS. so  Ad rank follows  max  cpc*qs.

it's  a  simple  formula  but  any suggestion to  upgrade above message really  appreciated .let's  solve  this message with  different people  feedback .

Thank  You
