Average Monthly Searches are exactly the same for singular and plural

For the first time in over 10 years, I noticed last week that the average searches for both singular and plural of each keyword were the same.  Is this a permanent change and is Google now treating both singular and plural keywords as exactly the same? Os there any way to see separate search counts for singular keywords?

I have recently noticed the same thing for when words are combined or split - carpark vs car park - they get the same numbers.

On a side note, Google often excludes geo searches in the results unless they are explicitly searched for. So "london carparks" doesn't show up when you check "car parks" but does if you check "london carparks".

Even more than ever this tool should be used as a rough guide instead of exact.

Hi Rob & Mary,

Thanks for pointing this out.

While I personally have not come across this yet, I would just like to reiterate what Rob said that the numbers from the tool should be used as a rough estimate and not absolute numbers. If you are not aware of this already, the keyword tool gives you volumes for Exact match keywords only i.e. when you make a plan for your account, you need to take into consideration the volumes you may be missing out on due to the tools default setting.

Try and understand the gap provided in the data from the tool and what you could actually record in you account and accordingly rework estimates or projections.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

The differences in search numbers for plural and singular words is significant. See my chart below showing previous search numbers and current search numbers for the same words:

I'm having the same problem. Actually it's broader that you think. I noticed it in other variations.

"App Design" and "App Designing"
"Brand Design" and "Brand Designing"
"Sport Analytics" and "Sports Analytics"

All will return the same numbers. Is this permanent or it's a bug? Also, if it's permanent how can I get the exact numbers for each keyword?

It's really confusing and will make a lot of things harder.
