Advertising Policies - Logo Usage

Greetings,

Background

My company's creative team would like to incorporate government logos and existing clients logos into several AdWord's campaigns.

Question

What are the policies regarding this? Would this be governned by the AdWords trademark policies?

Would best practices be to contact the client's whose logos would be used and have them authorize usage? Is usage authorization reserved for ads that have been disapproved?

Has anybody ever had any luck requesting the usage of logos from government agencies?

This is a bit of untapped ground for us so I appreciate any help!

If the info you want to incorporate is trademarked then your best bet is to use the form linked at this support document http://support.google.com/adwordspolicy/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=106477 to request authorization from the trademark owner.

I have not had experience in requesting use of trademarked info from a gov agency so sorry I can't comment on the ease or difficulties there Smiley Happy

Hi Orankashaw;

To follow with Kim's answer, I did search for you the legal section of the Policy, but I was not able to find any reference to Government seals or logo usage on a website.

However, in Google's General terms of service I found this:

  • We respond to notices of alleged copyright infringement and terminate accounts of repeat infringers according to the process set out in the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

I have no idea if Government logo falls under this US Congress act;

Any Google's policy specialist, who might want to comment?

Hi Orankashaw,

From what you're describing, it sounds like you're fine to feature any non-tradmarked logos on your site.  Great to see that you're doing all your due diligence on this, by the way!

More useful (albeit general) information on TMs here:  http://support.google.com/adwordspolicy/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=144298

Best,

Cody
