Hi there!

I was trying to monetize my YouTube video through third party advertising. I had an ad appear on my video prompting me to use AdWords. I clicked the ad and it is saying it will charge me. Is AdWords different to AdAense?

Thank you.

Hi Saeed,

yes they are different - and they are the two sides of the same coin.

When you place an ad on your website and a visitor clicks on the ad two things happen...

1. the person who placed the ad - in AdWords - pays for the click

2. the person who owns the website and allows Google to place the ads on the site - through AdSense - gets a payment from Google as a share of the revenue from 1.

Put more simply - with Adwords you pay, with AdSense you earn.

What actually happened to you is that you clicked an AdSense ad on Youtube which was placed there via an AdWords account, which is promoting AdWords!

After you clicked it will only charge you if you set up an Adwords account and start advertising.
