Ad not showing because of similar keyword message

Hi,

I have a campaign which is 1 year old. It has 8 campaigns which are paused. Now, I tried a new search campaign I see no ad is being displayed.

I see this message-Your ad isn't being shown for this keyword because there may be other ads within your account that are ranked higher and have similar keywords.

Please help me in understanding this and what to do now.

Thanks,

Hi,

I am not sure what you mean by a campaign has 8 campaigns. However, the message you see shows when multiple ad groups have keywords that match a search term, the AdWords system must make a more complex decision. This is because different ad groups might have different ads and landing pages. All of these differences can result in different experiences for customers, and can result in different Quality Scores for similar keywords in different ad groups. So, in this situation adwords decides to show the highest ad rank keyword.

What to do, is to make sure that your campaigns or ad groups don't overlap, use negative keywords or more restrictive match type such phrase or exact match type to ensure the search terms can be triggered by one keyword in an ad group can't be triggered by the other in a different ad group.

Oh! My mistake.
I meant the account has 8 campaigns which ran in the past. All are paused. I created a new Search Campaign and came across this message.

Would be a good idea to work on a previous (similar campaign which I setup last day) and change the settings? By this, I would be able to work on the same keywords which are in this new campaign (set up last day) also.

What would you suggest?

Thank,

Where do you see this message? this is probably the speech bubble next to the ad, if yes I would suggest using the ad preview and diagnostic tool, because the speech bubble works a little different.

Do you see and any numbers like impressions, clicks in the new campaign? if yes, so your ads are running successfully, no worries, ignore this message.
