Ads often show on Google with a fifth line of ad text, which usually includes the city or region. Why does this happen? Is it because the search query included the name of the city?

Hi mnkelly,

Those are location extensions tied to a Google Places account. It happens both when the query includes the city or region name and when the visitor is within the targeted geographic region.

Best of Luck!
