Hello friends ,

My webmaster tool is showing messages of "increase in 404 error pages" . When I checked these pages from given given links they are basically landing page URL's. Currently these PPC landing pages are not running but it is indexed in by Google. How can solve this problem ? Should I go for URL removal request for these 404 pages or any other option available ???

Thanks.

Hi Deepak,
This is common problem with campaign led landing pages which remains active for brief campaign period and then these pages are removed from the server not realizing the pages would have been indexed by the search engines' crawlers.

Simple way ideally while you create and run landing pages which are there for short period, please use robots.txt file to control the indexing of these pages by Search Engines' crawlers.

Now that these pages are indexed, you may want to redirect these non-existing pages on server to the next relevant pages or to the home page so that visitors or crawlers reach to some content on the site.
