Where have posted reviews gone for Automotive-Art.com

Business name: Automotive-Art.com

Business Address: 938 Vista Del Monte Way | El Cajon, CA 92020

Phone: 818-821-0845 (Pacific time)

Question: I have received 5 notifications of reviews being submitted - each was five stars.  I can only see the first four, I cannot see the fifth ... nor a sixth.  A sixth five star review was also apparently submitted to Google My Business - the person submitting the review sent me a screen grab showing that he could see the review for our business when he typed in "automotive art california" but I cannot, nor can other members of our team.  It appears Google is penalizing us somehow for receiving so many stellar reviews within 2 months time.   Yet we did nothing overtly to solicit these reviews... we had merely attended an event and sold product and gave a talk.  Now when listing our page, no rating stars appear in our listings.  What can be done to appeal and reverse this action?

Hi @Michael K

I can only see 4 reviews on page:

https://plus.google.com/109276179717306748988/about

There are a lot of reason why a review may not be displayed:

Most obvious:

Reviewer deleted review

Reviewer deleted  their account

Not so obvious:

URLs in reviews
The same review appears elsewhere online (Yelp, a testimonials page on your website etc)
The person who wrote the review is a manager of your G+ Page
The person who wrote the review works for you
The person wrote the review from the same computer/IP Address that you sign into to manage your local listing
The person wrote the review from the same IP address as other users who left you reviews
The person tried to post a review for you several times on different dates (Ex: they wrote one August 5 and it got filtered so they tried again on October 10)
You've been collecting reviews in mass within a short time frame
All the people reviewing you are clicking on a link from an email signature
The person reviewing you has also reviewed multiple other businesses with the same name (if you have several locations and they reviewed all of them)
The person reviewing you has a completely blank G+ profile and has never had any activity on that Google profile before or after they left you that review.
You hired an SEO company to post reviews for you
You have an onsite review station (Ipad, Computer etc) at your location
You have literally no reviews anywhere else online but tons on Google
You are offering incentives for people who write you reviews.
Your # of reviews is abnormally higher than most businesses in your industry

Thank you Tim Capper for your response. It is thorough.

As you can tell from how I posed the question that I was aware of the
various criteria that might trigger deletion of a post for violating Google
policy. Especially those criteria having to do with "gaming" the system.
In this case, none of those criteria apply to this case. That said, I
acknowledge that these stellar reviews (that I was notified about) did
originate within a 2 month window. But that is not the result of our
self-promoting initiatives. It is the result of our being a thoroughly
revamped site as of May, 2016. And having made an appearance at a popular
automotive-themed event.

I guess my question should have been more succinct: a) will anyone tell me
at Google what criteria they think we trespassed and b) can we appeal this
decision. While the consequence may have been just an algorithm, what can
be done to get out of this unjust sandbox we have been placed in.

I ask respectfully.

Hi @Michael K

No, Google will not tell you.

If the review was flagged for any guidelines, then it will be marked in RED for the reviewer to correct and resubmit.

There is no appeal, because it is not on your business page, rather it is posted from a reviewers account.

The reviewer needs to correct the review that was deemed to be against guidelines.

Hi Tim,

I'm reaching out to the reviewer to see if in fact he got any corrective
warning in red or otherwise from Google.

Will let you know what I find out, if anything. What is weird is that this
morning, I saw this fifth review in a listing as I was poking around on
administrative pages related to the brand page... but I can't find it now.
I wanted to show you that there was fleeting acknowledgement that it had
been posted.

Hi @Michael K

You still get emails of reviews being posted, but the review filter does not send you another to say it was removed.
