Moz Local can't detect my Google My Business Page

Moz Local can't detect my Google My Business Page in its listing of local citations ("No listing found on Google"): http://tinyurl.com/nnwmwmv. It provides me with a link to Google+ to build a page from scratch. Yet I have a fully developed Google My Business page: http://tinyurl.com/or4w8qx. Does anyone know why this could be? If there is action I need to take to remedy it, and what that might be? Being invisible to a major company like Moz doesn't bode well for my SEO…

Hi Mike, treebles,

Thanks.

Strange about the tinyurls. Here's how to access the pages directly:

Moz listing:
Go to https://moz.com/local/search. Enter "New York Jazz Events" (no quotes) as the search term, 10014 as the zip code. Select "New York Jazz Events" as the most accurate listing. On the page that results, Google+ will be the first bar in the bar chart, in a negative position, below the baseline. Click on that.

Google:
http://google.com/+newyorkjazzevents

Hi Mike and Treebles

I have no experience with Moz Local so can't actually help Chuck out, but just wanted to let you know that this is the direct link to his Google+ Page: https://plus.google.com/u/0/+NewYorkJazzEvents/about

Hi Chuck,

I was able to find your Google my Business listing in moz local right away, right up at the top. I'm not entirely sure how you might have missed it, maybe something changed since you posted. Either way, here's the link to the page you get once you click on it, it'll show what moz local thinks of your listing situation.

https://moz.com/local/details/JTI1NUIlMjUyMm5ldyUyNTIweW9yayUyNTIwamF6eiUyNTIwZXZlbnRzJTI1MjIlMjUyQy...

I have no idea if that'll work as a permalink, but hopefully you'll be able to click it and see it. Either way though, try new york jazz events with a 10014 zip code again, Your listing is the very first one for me at least.

Dang, I totally misunderstood the question. I get it now.

It's strange that your Google plus isn't being picked up by moz, and you're right... I'd take that to be a red flag as well. Two things jump out at me. The first is a minor one and I don't think would cause problems, but I've usually seen it discouraged to have a service area business with a radius of greater than 40 miles, and it looks like you've got yours set to at least 75. I don't work with a lot of service area businesses though, so someone else will have to chime in on whether or not that could be an issue here (or at all, given your location and industry).

A much bigger potential... I found this closed business page here with the same phone number as the new york jazz events listing:
https://plus.google.com/104809398116061677152/about

since that was registered as a service area business as well, I'd bet the address was the same for new york multimedia as it is for new york jazz events? If so, that could be hosing you too. Pity you didn't use a different phone number originally when setting up new york jazz events, if that's really the issue, that would have been an easy fix. Too late now.

If that closed business listing and your listing do indeed have the same phone number and address, check out this article that Joy Hawkins wrote last January. I'm pretty sure it's still relevant.

@Chuck B

@james w made a couple great points about the closed listing with the same phone number.  I found your listing on Moz using 10014 as the zip code.  Is that the correct zip code?  If so;

Joy's post that James shared will be valuable for dealing with the closed listing.   Joy is a Top Contributor in the GMB community.  I agree with James that you could trust her advice.

Thank you James W (also PriyaC, Cody).

Regarding the service area business radius, I’ve also heard from a separate discussion that I can be penalized for having a radius greater than 30 or 40 miles, so I’ve reduced it from 89 to 30, even though this now excludes a major market for me, i.e., private events in the Hamptons.

To make the situation with the duplicate listing more intelligible to this forum, I’m a freelancer as a jazz bandleader, and also as a graphic designer and in the past had several active Google Local pages, including the New York Multimedia page, all of which I deleted from my Google My Business account last Spring (to try to improve the ranking for my New York Jazz Events page). So, for example, doing a search on Google for “powerpoint specialist 212-989-5281” brings up one of these Google Plus pages in the search results, but if you click on it, you go to a 404 page, not to a listing that says “This business is closed.” like the New York Multimedia business page. Don’t know if that’s also hurting me, or if there’s anything I can do about it.

Reading Joy Hawkins article, another possible red flag that struck me is that Google doesn’t mention our review on our Yelp page on the knowledge panel for New York Jazz Events (she writes that “near the bottom you should be able to see the 3rd-party reviews attached to it).” Like my Google Business page’s invisibility to Moz, that also seems like it could be a red flag.

I’m assuming that this problem of my business phone number appearing on closed Google+ pages would also apply to it appearing on other, unrelated sites (like my actual New York Multimedia website), so I’ve removed it from those sources as well.

Here’s another strange thing: according to another article by Joy (http://imprezziomarketing.com/seo-blog/google-2/step-by-step-guide-to-finding-duplicate-google-plus-... I can find my duplicate listings by doing a search for my phone number in Google Map Maker (https://www.google.com/mapmaker). But this search not only doesn’t return my duplicate listings, it doesn’t even return any of my listings, including for New York Jazz Events. (Following the method of Part 2 of the tutorial doesn’t turn up any of my businesses either.)

Is my situation such a mess that the only way I can get out of it is to employ Joy’s (or some other professional’s) services?

By the way, if you’ve read this far, for further background information that would shed further light on my unusual situation, you might want to read over a previous, related post of mine that has entirely different, but relevant information: https://www.en.advertisercommunity.com/t5/Basics-for-Business-Owners/Developing-my-GMB-page-harmed-i...

Thanks again for everyone’s generous time and advice.

Interesting: today Moz Local can't see my business's Facebook page in addition to my Google Business page: https://moz.com/local/details/JTI1NUIlMjUyMm5ldyUyNTIweW9yayUyNTIwamF6eiUyNTIwZXZlbnRzJTI1MjIlMjUyQy...

(When I began this tread, it could see the Facebook page but not the Google Business page, and it gave me a score about 10 points higher than it's doing now…)
