You appear on their results if searching for Guitar Lessons Monclova, OH, USA:

Thank you, Helmut.

Monclova, Ohio is a small suburb of Toledo, Ohio. Businesses like ours with addresses in other Toledo suburbs show up on the map and directory when I search "guitar lessons in Toledo Ohio".

For instance, the first business shown after using that search phrase is in Maumee, Ohio.

Is it possible to be included in the "Toledo" search term, as well? If so, can you offer any advice as to how to make this happen?

Regards, and thanks again.

Joe Fisher

Unfortunately I have no good answer reagrding searching for your busines category in  Monclova versus Toledo

But I remember similar issues  for suburb locates businesses in the past (especially in and around Toronto)

Will ping a Canadian TC (@JoyHawkins )

Hope for you she has better advice:

Hi @Joe F

I'm not the Canadian BTW, but I think you could do with building your sites authority online now. Have just checked Moz open site explorer and you have no Links to your site.

Part of Google algorithm that determines a sites position, is from external authority sites linking to your website.

A good place to start would be : https://www.whitespark.ca/top-local-citation-sources-by-country

Then there are other bits :

Your take guitar lessons in Toledo is in an <h5> tag, Ideally this should be in an <h1>

Have a read of this:

Ranking Your Business

Getting a business to show on general search terms (as opposed to a search on your brand name) is known as search engine optimization.

Google doesn't share the secrets of how they rank one business over another but they generally are trying to emulate how people do it in the real world: they are looking for signs that your is close (proximity) to the searcher, that the business is relevant to the search query and is prominent in the local market in relation to the other business.

Proximity

sometimes if you are in the suburbs and your competitors are in the center city they might show more than you unless someone is looking for something in your neighborhood.

Relevance of your listing can be increased by being sure that

1)Your categories are chosen correctly in google.com/places

2)That your websites is properly designed so that Google can easily see what and where you do what you do

3)Your business listing is properly categorized around the internet at the various Yellow page and data provider sites.

Prominence is judged by (we speculate)

1)Prominence of your website (as created by links)

2)Prominence of your business name online as created by mentions of your business (citations and links on your brand name)

And

3)Other signals of importance like number of reviews and times that your clients have requested driving directions

I would start by going here: http://www.moz.com/local

Hey Joe,

According to Google Maps and MapMaker your address is in Monclova and so I would say it's really unlikely that you're going to rank in Toledo. the good news is that someone near your area could type in "guitar lessons" and still find you if they were close to your location. I would also agree with what others here have said in that you should look to optimize your site more and read up on different ranking factors that could help improve your ranking.
