Embedding Google Reviews onto website

Hi, I'm trying to embed reviews onto my WordPress website, but the plugins available are outdated or have very basic configuration so they look ugly, and the tutorials I've found to embed Google+ reviews are also outdated. Is there still a way to embed reviews onto websites? Even if it's just to display one review, anything would help.

Sorry if this is the wrong board to post this on, but I believe this was the most relevant I could find.

Many Thanks,

Andrew

@Andrew H

The embeeding feature seems not working  but you can get a sharable link .

Lemme show whatg I mean:

Supposed you would like to embedd one of the two reviews of "The House of Mac Gregor" as visible below

Screenshot 2017-03-09 at 13.43.46.pngScreenshot 2017-03-09 at 13.44.02.png

then click on -lets say "DAN & JOSEPH" getting the review contributions of this user:

Screenshot 2017-03-09 at 13.54.29.png

scroll left side down to get the review for "the house of  MacGregor" visible.

Below of it there is a link to share this review.

clicking it I got https://goo.gl/maps/PV2ft5Cg5no

Note you also can see the option to exptract embedding code as well.

But this code is to embedd a plain map - it will not help showing or readaing the reveiw text.

Hope this helps

Hi Helmut,

Thanks for clarifying that for me, it seems there used to be a way of embedding reviews from Google+ but now reviews left by people aren't shown on their Google+ profiles anymore. We're using an alternative solution now, which is simply just a link which takes you to the Google search results page with the business' reviews pop-up being displayed e.g. https://goo.gl/6foiDC

Many Thanks,

Andrew

I figured out a solution of my own.  After doing quite a bit of research I was able to cobble together a good solution (that looks nice) and allows you to display google reviews that automatically update.
Here's a screenshot of my solution...

You can read about my solution and get the code at this link: http://www.launch2success.com/guide/display-google-reviews-website-2017/

Hope that's helpful!

Hi Steven,

Your solution looks really nice indeed. However, I copied the code on a new page of my website, and it doesn't show anything.

Do you have an idea of why?

It's hard to say for certain without seeing it.

However one common issue I've seen happens when you already have jQuery called on your website.  I included jQuery as part of the snippet, but if your website already has jQuery, calling it twice will break things.  Try removing the line that says...

<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>

Also, If you'd like, you can send me a link to your site and I'll see if I spot anything obvious that's the matter.

Steven,

I found your code today as well through google searches, I liked the code but I couldnt get mine to work either.

Couple of questions about it:

1. How do I use my own API

2. My site is html so do I need to put some of that script in the header? Also i use https and it seems your stylesheets are http so I cant use your stylesheets.

3. Is there a way to show total reviews and stars + rating? (for example) say I have a 5 star business and want to show those big 5.0 and 5 stars with 8 reviews. This would be great to have.

Hi Quincy,

Great questions.  Here are the answers...

1.  To get your own API key, go to https://developers.google.com/places/web-service/get-api-key and follow the instructions.  You can sign in with your google account.  Once you've done that, update this code. Replace the part (highlighted in red) with your new API key.

<script src="https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?v=3.exp&key=AIzaSyC2fMEMuEPYcktMmZei-LVTqfRE1_NMyqQ&signed_in=true&libraries=places"></script>

2. That's a good point about the HTTPS (I'll probably change that later) but in the mean time, I'd recommend you host the files on your own website.  That will solve the problem quite easily.

To do that,  download the following files and upload them to your website.

http://abc.eznettools.net/heavensbesttemplate/js_css/google-places.js

http://abc.eznettools.net/heavensbesttemplate/js_css/google-places.css

Then make sure to change the links in the code, so that they point to where you just uploaded them (for example: https://www.mydomain.com/google-places.js)

3. As for the number of reviews, you can only show 5 reviews (or less).  This is a limitation of the Google API.  So there's not much that anyone can do about that outside of Google.

Hope that helps! :)

I just made some updates to the code so it should work better for more people.  I moved the code's source to a CDN which should help it load faster.  It's also now HTTPS so it should work better with HTTPS websites.  I also modified the way the jQuery function is called so it's less likely to cause conflicts with other scripts on your page.  Hope that's helpful.

(if you've been there recently, refresh the page to make certain you have the new version of the script).

That looks great I'll take a look at this sooner and I think you misunderstood me about your number 3 answer. I was about if you could display this: google-review.png

would be awesome if you could but im guessing you cant dynamically display it? You'll probably have to update it manually right?
