Business not showing up on Google Maps

For over a year my business was showing up in Google Maps on the top three.  About a week ago that changed and now I am nowhere to be found in maps.  It's very strange because organically I show up on the first page of Google.  We didn't change anything and I am perplexed and so is my SEO person.  I currently have 6 review all of which are 5 starts and over 50 photos.  Is it possible for someone to check this for me.  My phone has completely stopped ringing.  My business name is Barbara Gilbert Interiors and I am located in Dallas TX.  Previously when I would Google "Interior Designer Dallas, I would show up in maps.

Thank you for your help.

Google's search algorithm, including for maps, is constantly being updated.  I would wager the leading suspect in this case is their recent increase in the number of reviews required, I believe it is up to 30.  There are some articles online about the change.

Thanks for the reply Steve.  The business that is listed first on maps doesn't have a singe review, where I have six.  I think it must be something else.

Hmm... do you have your "Google My Business" profile fully filled out?

I suggest you re-post this question over in the Google My Business forum... that's where the black belts are for issues like this.

Hi @Barbara G,

I have moved this tread to the Google My Business community.

Please note that at the top of your website, there are links to your social sites, which includes your G+ Business page. You can visit this link and see your Google My Business dashboard. Click on the sign in link at the top and use your same credentials as your G+ Business page.

Your organic listings on Google will change as changes in the local market changes or with algorithm changes by Google... and more. Simply being there in the past does not mean you will remain.

If you were searching for your business and seeing it... what did you do next? If you did not visit your website, you helped train Google that your website was not wanted. Did you sometimes click on a competitor? That helped train Google that your competitor had the info you wanted (which means it was more relevant). Did you click on the your website and then close it? That trained Google that your website was not very interesting in the search you were making.

Do you use Google Analytics and Google Search Console for your website? You really should so that you can truly understand your traffic. Have you compared year-to-date to see what traffic was like this time last year? I was raised in the furniture & interior design industry and work for many businesses in the home furnishings world... and traffic is down industry wide, which is somewhat normal for mid-October.

Further, Google Reviews are great to help your prospective clients understand you and appreciate you  more... but the business with the most reviews does not win with regards to organic listings in the SERPs (search engine results pages). As a Google GYBO partner, web developer and SEO agency, I can tell you that reviews have never promised a first place listing anywhere.

If you look at this link, you will see that you are represented well in the SERPs and your Google Knowledge Panel (large info box on right side of SERPs) is populated correctly. I do see that some of time, you use #120 and other times you use Suite 120. I would make them all consistent so that your NAP (name, address, phone) is precisely the same.

Your website looks solid, as do your social sites... so I do not think those are at play. I would dig into Analytics & Search Console and see when the last time you submitted a XML site map to Google (via Search Console), look for errors to correct, items to improve... and analyse the traffic trends to your website over a 13 month period. And I would investigate if the website content is stale... as in when was it last changed up?  And make sure you and your web team are only using Whitehat SEO techniques.

You might want to consider running some Google AdWords PPC advertising to boost your organic listings.

Please look into these things and report back the findings.

Kind Regards,

James

Sorry Barbara I was out for a while.  But per James, looks like this thread was already moved to the Google My Business forum.  All the Google Communities are gathered together, with a navigation bar on the left.

Looks like James gave you a lot of great info and things to check there... best of luck with fixing your Google Maps presence!

Hi James:  Thank you so much for your reply.  You mention that you are a web developer, SEO agency, I am wondering if you are work with small clients and can fix these items for me?

We recently added some new interior design services and an online store to my website, could that have affected Google Maps?

Thank you.
