Business is NOT permanently closed

Hi guys,

Ok, this is a long one, but to cut the story short I'm just going to bullet point what I've done and what the situation is... Basically, I've done everything I've thought of and now need some advice on having this issue resolved.

  • I have discovered two "my business" listings.

The first listing is the correct listing, verified, information added, images. All round great listing. This does not show up when searching for the brand name.

The second listing hold incorrect and minimal information (looks like it was scraped from some spammed directory)

  • I have tried to go through a claiming process, however, we can't claim it. The address is incorrect and it's only allowing us to verify via mail.
  • I spoke to Google Phone Support - a number of times - and escalated the problem further multiple times, with the response "there is nothing we can do".

The second listing - that is incorrect - shows the business as "permanently closed" and displays when searching for the brand name. The other "legitimate" listings nowhere to be seen.

I have tried to have Google Support change the incorrect listing from "permanently closed" to "moved" after seeing this article searchengineland.com/google-fixing-permanently-closed-problem-242364 but no success, with Google Support Team telling me that there is no such system for My Business and what I'm asking cannot be done. "now I understand why people give such bad feedback about phone support".

I have been adding the "legitimate" My Business URL to citations in directories, added it to the websites footer with "SameAs" schema and added the map listing URL next to the map on the contact page. Still nothing.

I'm truly stuck with this unique situation and I'm seeking some advice in here on how we can have the incorrect listing removed completely, or at least marked as moved with a redirect to the legitimate listing. I'm also open to claiming it and changing the information to another branch.

Please include the following with your question:
1. Full business name

LHD Lawyers

2. Current business address

8/151 Castlereagh St, Sydney NSW 2000

3. Current telephone number

1800 455 725

4. Google+ URL

https://plus.google.com/+LHDLawyersSydney/about

Hi Nick

Can you please provide a link to the unwanted listing (like a Maps link) or a screenshot of where you are seeing it?

Thank you.

Hi Priya,

Thanks for your reply. I've added a screenshot here http://imgur.com/7Alb9T3 as it doesn't seem to have a URL that I can see.

Hi Nick,

Thanks for that additional information. There's a few things going on here and I may need to bring in my CM at some point to help but let's see what we can do ourselves:

1. Firstly, Google is not a fan of 1800 numbers for local businesses - the idea of a local business is one that is near me (as the searcher) whilst a 1800 tends to indicate a larger, possibly nation wide business. I noticed you have a local number for your Brisbane office, do you also have one for the Sydney office that you could use instead of the 1800 number?

2. Instead of having a link to your Google maps on the Contact us page, actually embed that map into your contact us page - that will give Google more trust in your business locations. To get the embed code for each map, follow the link you currently have on your contact us page --> click on the share icon --> select embed map and then copy the code that is generated. Paste that code into your contact us page, in lieu of the Google Map that you currently have there.

3. I was able to find a number of references to LHD Lawyers being located at Elizabeth Street, both in online directories as well as news stories. Obviously you can't do anything about the news articles, but you need to go through and remove all references to the Elizabeth St location from every online directory you can find. Here's a list of the ones I saw in the first 2 pages of Google:

http://www.australia-businessdirectory.com/company-lhd-lawyers-the-compensation-specialists_150

http://www.yelp.com.au/biz/lhd-lawyers-the-compensation-specialists-sydney-2

http://www.truelocal.com.au/business/lhd-lawyers-the-compensation-specialists/sydney

http://www.know-bull.com/legal.html

http://www.findlaw.com.au/lawfirm/1399/leitch-hasson-dent.aspx

http://www.whereis.com/nsw/sydney-2000/yellowId-14322530

http://www.yellowpages.com.au/nsw/sydney/lhd-lawyers-the-compensation-specialists-14322530-listing.h...

http://top50lawfirms.com.au/lhd-lawyers-2/

And I'm sure there'll be plenty more if you do some hard searching :)

4. I'll speak to my CM about applying the 'moved' tag behind the scenes. She may have more luck than you did with support, but no promises :)

Hi Priya,

Thanks for your response on the issue.
I'm going to go through your process for #2 and #3 and keep hounding Sensis, I'm pretty sure they're my problem right now. ;)
As for #1 I'll try using a local number to see what happens and I hope you have luck with #4 :D

Thanks you so much for providing such detailed information that confirms so much for me.

Nick,

Can you clarify a couple things for me? Were you ever at that address at some point in time or is it just wrong? If you were there and moved can you tell me how long ago you moved?

Hi Joy,

We were at that address and moved office at the end of last year (2015).
