Address and Service Area Settings

Hi,

My business address location is outside of the area where I deliver services. The delivery area (Bristol +more) is correct and business address verified. When I search for my services in my chosen delivery area e.g. 'planning agent Bristol' I do not appear on the list of results. Am I doing something wrong? How do I get my business to appear in these areas or do I have to have a business address in each area?

Thanks,

Colin

Colin,

You will most likely only rank in the city you are located in. You are not allowed to create other listings in nearby towns unless you have physical offices there (like retail).  This is the way the map was intended and if you want more exposure in surrounding cities, that's what AdWords is for :)

Hi Colin,

This is an old thread so I hope there is still some interest in answering my concern. I think I have the same problem as Colin S had. When i search for my category of business in my service area my business do not show up. If you explanation is true why do we need to fill a service area that clearly says is only visible to "me". Why does Google ask me to spend time filling all those neighborhoods and cities tat I serve for no known purpose. It also puzzles me that in the results, besides the sponsored ones -that I assume are companies that used AdWords- are some results for companies that are located outside the area that I searched and do not appear to be sponsored results. If the companies who appear on top of the results as sponsored are the ones that use AdWords, how the other company got into that list? I want to use the same method they do. Do you or anyone have an idea?

Also, a moderator told sometime ago that is just matter of time for google to use your service area as a search criteria. Is that true?

I hope somebody can answer.

Thanks to all.
