What Do Gmail Ads Look Like?

Hi AdWords Community!

Have you ever wondered what your Gmail ads might look like when they appear in a user's inbox?

Here's an example of Gmail ads in the Promotions tab of a Gmail account:

Thanks for the picture! I'd love to see several examples of expanded ads. There are so many ways to use this space, and I'd like to see some samples that show best practices.

I am confused about something in the picture you posted. The guidelines in AdWords say you can only have a 25-character headline with body copy up to 100 characters. In the examples above, though, the headlines contain more than 25 characters. Which is incorrect, the guidelines or the image?

Hi Nicole,

The image we shared was a mock-up of the ad placement in the Gmail Promotions tab. You will still need to stick with the Gmail ads character limits in order for your ad to be approved and to run. However, we've updated the image to avoid confusion in the future!

You'll be able to see examples of expanded ads from the Ad Gallery, where you can play around with different templates and copy. Just go to your Ads tab, click the red +Ad button, and choose the Ad Gallery. From there, you can choose Gmail Ads and work with the options there.

Hope this helps!
Cassie

Hi Cassie,

Thanks for your above screenshot for Gmail Ads.

I have a question regarding the same.

1. What are the possible ROI factors of Gmail ads?

Regards,

Sumit

I noticed Google Ads are quite expensive (the billing) compared to other search engines....

Hi Sumit,

I'm not sure what you mean by possible factors for ROI. Can you explain a bit more?

Thanks!

Cassie

Hey Cassie, Sure, I mean like we have CTR a factor for Search, VTR and Interactions for GDN. So what are the other important KPI's for Gmail camp. other than Forward and saves. Thanks, Sumit

Hi Sumit,

The separate KPIs for Gmail Ads are under the Gmail metrics section after you go to "Customize Columns." CTR and conversion rate are still a success metric for many advertisers, but as always, the KPI you use will depend on your specific goals for the campaign.

Hope this helps!

I am building a Gmail Sponsored Promotion for a client, but I can't find the most up to date specs for a "single item" ad anywhere. Where can I find those? All I can find are the big image ad specs (650px x 650px image). Since I am not the person who is going to place the ad, I can't login to view the specs/templates.... any help?

Hi Julie,

You can find the specs for the single-promotion template here on the Help Center (expand out the section called Expanded Ad Field Requirements).

Hope this helps!

Im wondering..can we add keywords as a custom bid type for Gmail Ads so that our ads are triggered for certain keywords we want the ad to show for?
