Using Trademark Symbols in Ads

Registering a trademark for a business is no easy task; it can take a considerable amount of time and money to obtain. For this reason alone you should want to take advantage of it in your ad content, but bear in mind that it can also help in making your ads stand out from the competition. It’s evident that even small adaptions to an ad (like callout extensions for example) can significantly improve click-through rates, so it’s important that we utilise everything in our arsenal. Please bear in mind that this should only be applied when you do actually own a trademark however.

Yes, simply including a trademark, registered or copyright symbol beside your acquired term can have enough of a positive impact to acquire additional conversions. The good news is that these symbols are easy to add to your ad text! Simply copy and paste my examples below or hold the Alt key followed by the appropriate string of numbers to generate the symbol yourself –

Trademark ™ = ALT + 0153

Registered ® = ALT + 0174

Copyright © = ALT + 0169

Hey Scott!

I am trying to insert the TM symbol in a simple text ad using your (ALT + 0174) example - to no avail. Do you know if these strings are still valid with the current platform? Or, perhaps I am missing something painfully obvious...

Thanks!

Hey @Dino B,

Holding the ALT keys didn't work for me either for whatever reason. But I copy and paste the trademarks from Excel or Word, Etc. Then I paste into AdWords or the Editor. That works.

BTW, a neat trick in excel is to type (R), (TM), and (C), which will turn into the ™ , ® and © as you hit enter.

Try copying and pasting from another source into AdWords @Ashish U

Hope that helps

Found a site that I copied superscript and pasted in adwords and that did work. Only warning is that it takes up 4 spaces, not 2.

Interesting discovery, @Ashish U. I never realized that those symbols take more than 2 spaces.

Thankfully, losing two characters is no longer a big issue since ads were expanded to the 30/30/80 character space with the Expanded Text Ads.

Cheers,

-Julia
