Solutions Guide for Implementing Google Analytics via Google Tag Manager

The following was originally posted on the Google Analytics Blog on March 15, 2015.

Marketers, developers, and practitioners of analytics depend on having the right data at the right time - but implementing analytics code or AdWords pixels can be a less than fun (or easy) experience. Google Tag Manager makes tagging simple and fast by letting you add tags with a simple UI instead of code, while also offering advanced tracking features used by some of the web’s top sites.

Today we’re excited to announce the launch of the Solutions Guide section on the Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager Help Centers. The Solutions Guide area is focused on providing actionable, hands on, step-by-step instructions for implementing Google Analytics, AdWords, DoubleClick, and other third party tags via Google Tag Manager.

In this guide, you’ll learn:
  • When and why to use Google Tag Manager
  • Best practices for naming conventions and setup tips
  • When to choose the Data Layer or the Tag Manager UI
  • How to implement GA event tracking, custom dimensions & cross-domain tracking
  • How to setup AdWords, Doubleclick, and Dynamic Remarketing tags in GTM
We’re thrilled to share this with you and hope you find it helpful as you implement Google Tag Manager.

Check out the new GTM Solutions Guide today!

Happy Tagging.

Hi,

I  have update the code form old ga,js to new  analytics.js  from the developer network (https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/analyticsjs/ecommerce#implementation).

After completion of a transaction I was able to see the transaction details in source code but these transaction details are not tracking in google analytics.

The following is the code that I am able to see in the source code on my confirmation page. Please review the below source code and let us know how to resolve it.

document.write(unescape("%3Cscript src='" + gaJsHost + "google-analytics.com/analytics.js' type='text/javascript'%3E%3C/script%3E&quotSmiley Wink);
try{
ga('create','UA-####-1','auto');
ga('send', 'pageview');
ga('require', 'ecommerce');

ga('ecommerce:addTransaction' , {
'Id' : '167451',
 'affiliation' : XXX',
 'revenue' : '39.99',
 'shipping' : '8.99',
 'tax' : '2.80'
});
ga('ecommerce:addItem', {
'Id' : '167451',
 'name' : 'DryTech Basic V Neck Liner',
 'sku' : 'CB149',
 'category' : 'Cheer-InStockPracticeandTeamWear-WomensLongTops(GKEliteMasterCatalog)',
 'price' : '39.9900',
 'quantity' : '1'
 });
ga('ecommerce:send');

Thanks,
Murali

Hi there guys :

I've just started to use Tag Manager a week ago. Today I tried to create a content experiment on google analytics

and discovered it does not work with GTM.

Do you know if it's possible to make these work together to create A/B testing ?

Thanks a million .. any idea would be more than welcome :-)

hi everybody ,

Since the end of 2015, the whole of our customers saw appearing the images.google sources and images.google.fr in their sources report of traffic.
Is one of the questions which was asked why “images.google” has a support organic whereas images.google.fr has a support referral?
Normally, it would be expected that the two sources have the same support “organic”.
Question 1: which is the difference between images.google and images.google.fr
Question 2: why is there a difference also in the support?
Question 3: which solutions could one set up Re-to segment the two sources?
