Five Things to Check Before Leaving for Vacation

Going on vacation soon? Here's a five-point checklist for a hassle-free break:

1. Update ads with relevant holiday offers

Before leaving for vacation, make sure the offers in your ads are up-to-date. Edit your ads to change monthly offers and create offer extensions or sitelinks to make your deals more visible.

TIP: We recommend you upload your ads at least one week in advance to ensure that they’re reviewed in time for the holiday. Learn more about Ad Approval.

2. Automate certain AdWords tasks

Adjusting bids at the airport? Thinking about conversions while hiking in the mountains? Set up automated rules and you can have it all done without losing priceless moments of your vacation.

3. Ensure your account is funded to run while you’re away

Keep your shop doors open by making sure you don’t exhaust you account credit while on holiday. Check your Billing Summary page and make an adequate manual payment or consider switching to automatic payments to keep the machine running.

TIP: Remember to extend the end dates of your campaigns and Merchant Center feeds. Five minutes of work, but a whole summer of comfort!

4. Think about when your phones lines will be open

Think about scheduling your call extensions to not show when your offices are closed (but don’t forget to reactivate them once you’re back!) Consider also changing your call extensions to forward clients to a different contact number to ensure a positive customer experience.

5. Tune in to the Weather Channel for sales guidance

If the demand for your product is very weather-sensitive, try Bidding By Weather! If you sell umbrellas, for example, you can take advantage of good opportunities on some surprisingly rainy days. It takes just 20 minutes to create a script that uses weather conditions to adjust bids.

Hello ,

I am wondering how can we pause the call extension as suggested ? After reading the thread bellow it seems not possible :

Hi Adrian,

That thread you linked to was started back before Enhanced Campaigns launched, so the information is a little outdated.

With upgraded call extensions in Enhanced Campaigns, you can add a start/end date for the call extension and schedule the times you want the extension to show. More info here.

It's not as simplistic as just "pausing" it, so I edited the post to reflect the distinction. Great question!
