Hi, i just set up a few adds recently and noticed that my adds are displayed at the bottom of the search and not at the top like others, how do i get the adds to be displayed before the search results?

Hi James,

This kind of thing can happend when historically, Google has found these keywords to be of low relevancy to the users query so the minimum first page bid might be raised putting off some advertiser from bidding on them. It helps keep poor performing  ads from appearing to users.

Is your 1st page bid estimate quite high? You can get this data in the UI by customising the columns on the keywords tab. You want to select attributes then est first page bid.

Hi James,

Welcome to the community.

AdWords ad position is based on a formula called Ad Rank. The higher the ad rank, the better your ad position.

You ad rank is calculated as follows: Max CPC * Quality Score

The ads you see above you will have a higher ad rank so if you want to appear higher you will have to either improve your quality scores or increase your max bid.

To appear above the result there is a minimum quality threshold that you have to meet. You can read up on this here.

Hi James,

In addition to AdRank, your must attain a certain Quality Score to appear at the top of search results. A higher bid, and therefore AdRank, will help you get a higher position in the right hand column of ads but no bid will get a low QS ad in the top results.

Best of Luck!

Pete
