what's the difference between Product listing Ads and normal ads?

I have been told that I now have to pay to advertise using Merchant Centre listing and to create a Product listing Ad.

I cant see any difference in that and normal ads on Adword

Are the merchant centre listings now defunct?

my understanding is that the products from your merchant centre feed will still show in google shopping searches as before.

but if you link your adwords and merchant centre account, you can run product listing ads. which means that google will look for products from your feed that are relevant to a users query and show an image, price and a link through to your site (based on the info you have in your feed). you pay each time someone clicks on your product. we've had some great results with product listing ads once we got our feed well inline with googles merchant centre requirements.

hope that makes sense,
