what is the role of gclid?

Hi,

 

some times when I click on ads gclid comes and sometimes not, so can anyone explain me what is the reason behind that?

Hello, 

 

The gclid parameter has a function when Google Analytics is linked with an Adwords account. It takes care of bringing data from Adwords to Analytics.
This is set in Adwords with a function called auto-tagging.

When there is no gclid parameter, then auto-tagging is not working. The most common reason auto-tagging is not set in Adwords, is that Google Analitics is not linked with the Adwords account.

 

Auto-tagging automatically  help you track your ad performance in tracking programs.

 

If you have multiple ads that link to the same page on your website, the gclid parameter helps to get the information which ad was clicked for each visit to your site.

In Google Analytics  you can see which AdWords keywords brought a visitor to your site, which campaign that keyword was from, and how much that click cost.

** I´am learning Adwords and find it very interesting.
** Ik ben Adwords aan het leren en vind het erg boeiend.
