remarketing dynamic ads Tag - wordpress / Woocommerce - how to?

Visitor ✭ ✭ ✭

Community Hello:

We are running

WordPress 4.8 running Twenty Seventeen theme

Woocommerce 3.0.9

I wish to insert my Google Adwords tag (see below) for Google remarketing dynamic ads, and generate the required Google Retail parameters:

ecomm_prodid:

ecomm_pagetype:

ecomm_totalvalue:

I already have my product feed uploaded and working on Google Merchant (we advertise on Google Shopping). We use the woocommerce product SKU for the product ID on our feed.

I have my Adwords remarketing Campaign, Ad Group, and Audience set up.

Can anyone recommend a best method for inserting the Tag and generating the Retail parameters?

Would I still need to used Google Tag Manager with this?

By the way, Google states that if I have the latest Google Analytics tag working, then an additional Adwords tag in not required. This does not seem to be the case? (I do have my adwords, merchant, and analytics accounts all correctly connected).

Thanks, Garry – USA

@Garry S,

Yes, in my opinion, Google Tag Manager is definitely the correct approach. This would not just allow you to pass and collect valuable data but it will consolidate the implementation process.

Make sure to create a "child theme" of your Twenty Seventeen theme in wordpress and insert your Tag Manager snippets (<script> & <noscript>) within the header.php folder in the Appearance < Editor settings. Otherwise, the tag manager snippet can be overwritten whenever you update your wordpress.

In this scenario, if you implemented tag manager, you would be able to create more segmented custom retargeting tags that can fire whenever certain initiatives are met. For example, create a tag that fires when "ecomm_totalvalue > $$$" (and you can include a higher dollar amount which would let you create a "high value" target audience").

Regardless of how you setup your tags, there are some plugins available in wordpress that will allow to inject more data into your website, via the data layer, which you can interact with in Google Tag Manager.

Hope this helped!

Hi Garry,

Plugins are usually the easiest way to go. I found this one (but haven't used it myself):

thanks for the replies.

Custom Dimension name: ecomm_prodid
Copy the following code snippet for your platform. DO NOT FORGET to replace dimensionValue with your own.

var dimensionValue = 'SOME_DIMENSION_VALUE';
ga('set', 'dimension1', dimensionValue);

if I add this snippet to my Wordpress/Woocommerce (manually or via GTM) - what should I  'SOME_DIMENSION_VALUE' with?

thanks

Cameron hello - thanks for the reply. I am still a bit confused?

How do I handle the 3 retail parameters?

ecomm_prodid: 'REPLACE_WITH_VALUE',
ecomm_pagetype: 'REPLACE_WITH_VALUE',
ecomm_totalvalue: 'REPLACE_WITH_VALUE',

I need to create data layers in GTM for them? Can I simplify life and accomplish the same task solely via a Google Analytics tag ? Can I have a single tag snippet for adwords remarketing + Analytics?

The end goal is to generate a remarketing display ad containing the product SKU that was recently visited. Product Feed + Google shopping + Adwords remarketing ad + audiences all set up OK. Accounts all linked OK.

I would prefer not to use any wordpress plugins for this.

thanks - GARRY (my tag below)

@Garry S,

Google Tag Manager Implementation

You would need to create a data layer variable in Google Tag Manager that can pass the values: google_tag_params with your Adwords Dynamic Remarketing code. However, here is a quick 10 minute video of the implementation process. This video will give you a visual of exactly how to set this up using Google Tag Manager. Disregard the plugins portion...if you are web savvy then you can implement this data directly into your source code. Dynamic Adwords Remarketing | Using Google Tag Manager

Direct Dynamic Implementation

Your 'REPLACE_WITH_VALUE' needs to be replaced with variables that relate to your web pages. Depending on how your website was built, find the values that relate to each variable and pass that data dynamically within the injected code. For example, your code could pass the dynamic value by using:

ecomm_totalvalue:  {{ product.price_min | money_without_currency }},

(this value relates to a shopify variable). Watch this video on how to implement: Google Dynamic Remarketing

Let me know if these videos helped? Otherwise, I will start breaking down the setup process....
