copy an ad group to a new campaign but keep the old data

Is it possible to copy an ad group from one campaign to another, but keep all of the old historic data that it had collected such as quality score and ranking?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi Patrick,

You can copy or move adgroups but

  • Your ad group's performance statistics, such as impressions and clicks, will not be transferred to the new location."

You can read here more about this. Hope this helps.

Hi Patrick,
To add to Nisal's answer, the post he referred to was for copying Ad Groups via the AdWords Editor. If you don't have that, you can download it and find more information here.  AdWords Editor is great for managing your Campaigns, especially if you like to work in spreadsheets.

You can also copy/paste via the AdWords interface.  To do this:

1.  Log into AdWords

2.  Click on the Ad Group tab

3.  Click on the check box of the Ad Group  you want to copy/paste.

4.  Click on the Edit button - (in the row below the graph).

5.  Go to the Campaign where you want to copy it to.

6.  Click on the Edit button.

7.  Click Paste.

Detailed instructions here.

Please note - doing this does not delete/pause your old Ad Group, it only copies it.  Before you want to serve Ads out of that Ad Group in your new Campaign, make sure to pause the original Ad Group.

Again, as Nisal stated, as long as you don't delete your original Ad Group, all of the statistics will still be in there and accessible to you.  As long as you're copying everything over (Ads & Keywords & Bids), you should see relatively consistent Quality Scores and positioning.  Quality Score and your CPCs may see a little fluctuation at first, but it should normalize.  Keep in mind, if the Daily Budget in your new Campaign is higher/lower, you may see more/less Clicks.

Hi Brian,

Did you by any chance mean that statistics are available even if the ad group is deleted, by accessing the deleted ad group  ?
