I am having problems correcting the URL for my website. When I click on the first line of my ad, it gives me an internal error and the URL is showing up twice. I have tried to correct this using the online help but it is very confusing and I have not been able to correct it. Can someone please help? Thanks.

Hey reneemac,

Depending on how you setup your ads, AdWords will sometimes auto-append 'http://'. If this is the case, and you entered http://www.domain.com, then it will not work because technically that will read http://http://www.domain.com. Double check the destination URLs to make sure all are correct.

Thanks,

Hi Reneemac,

Following on from what BlueIon posted above, remove http:// from your destination URL in your ad text but keep www.example.com.

In addition to this, I would also recommend ensuring that your website is functioning correctly and is not intermitently returning any errors.

An ad's landing page URL is required to work properly; it cannot return a status code indicating an error. For more information on error status codes, visit http://www.w3.org/Protocols/rfc2616/rfc2616-sec10.html.

You can also use HTTP header tools to help you identify where those errors are occurring on your website. Below are two such tools:

- http://www.brothersoft.com/iehttpheaders-download-13615.html (for IE HTTP Header)
- https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3829/ (for Firefox)

Make sure that your landing page URL doesn't return a status code indicating an error, and that your ad complies with all of our guidelines for destination URLs at http://adwords.google.com/support/bin/static.py?page=guidelines.cs&answer=47174. You can then resubmit your ad for approval by following the directions at http://adwords.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=6273

I hope this helps!

Hi Reneemac,

You say that you click on your ad headline and your domain is showing up twice.  Like this?:

http://www.domain.comhttp://www.domain.com

Is this what you mean?

If this is the case, perhaps it was entered twice during ad creation (although I'm not sure that would pass the ad check).  You'll want to edit your ad(s) from the Ads tab in your account and check what you entered in the destination URL field.

Is there any more information you can provide?
