Why is the adwords editor so slow and sluggish?

The Adwords management system has gone from fast, to slow, to slower, to deadly slow. The more stuff you have put on, the more sluggishness. I have used adwords for almost 10 years and I am devastated by the fact that you have trashed the system with so much AJAX code that it pukes.

I recently started buying facebook ads. Wow man!!! It was smooth like when adwords started. I am about to give up adwords. They serioslu need to redo the editor. It is simply too much stuff in there and too bad performance.

Hi HamSphere,

Sorry to hear you've had trouble with the Editor. I'll pass that feedback on to our specialists.

Hi Kelly, are you actually talking about the AdWords Editor (offline program) or the AdWords interface online?

In either case, if you do decide to use another advertising platform, bear in mind that they may have a quite different demographic.  Facebook, for example, is likely to have a very different set of people viewing the Ads than those who use Google Search.  Microsoft/Yahoo Bing is very close to AdWords, but again is a different demographic (for example, their search Ads are shown to people who use Bing, not Google).

Hi Jon. I am referring to the online interface at http://www.google.com/adwords

I have a super fast computer, 20 Mbit Internet, and I have tried it on IE, Firefox and of course Chrome. The AdWords interface onle is just getting slower and slower and sometimes it just stops with a script saying "running too slow". This only happens on adwords and no other platform. You who have used adwords online editor for a long time know exactly what I am talking about. It used to have lightening speed, but as AJAX grew, and the more functionality Google put in, it just went from speedly to really sluggish. There are others complaining about this too on the Internet.

I know exactly when it started to go sideways. It was from the moment they changed the Date-selector from automatic to when you have to select "Today", "Yesterday", "Custom" etc. All of a sudden they have added a button to execute the date change. From that release onwards it has been deadly slow. And C'mon, you know what I am talking about here. It is a well know fact. But I really hope Google cleans up the code which seem to have grown in the wrong way. HOw come facebook uses twice as much Ajax code and yet get away with a fantastic speed on their interface.

The Google Platform for both Editor and Online interface did experience some Issues earlier today throughout the country. It lasted about 1.5 hours or so,. Did come back to full "normal" speed after that.

Hi Kelly,

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with AdWords editor - I've also had some problems with the programs performance when loading an account with a large number of campaigns/adverts/keywords.

Increasing your computers RAM/CPU will help the program handle larger amounts of data.

As a temporary solution to the problem (this is what I do) I would recommend creating new campaigns within a draft account in editor and then copying the finished campaign(s) into the live account when complete.

It's by no means a perfect solutions but it certainly helps me - Also, I try and do as much editing in excel as possible as the editor is indeed very slow..

Hopefully we should see some new updates/improvements rolled out for the adwords editor in the latter half of this year - Fingers crossed.

- Happy PPC'ing :-)

have you found this solved? i'm actually using adwords and 6/8 times i try to open my campaings, it pretends to load and then I end with just the header, the "campaings" tab highlighted and an empty body where i should be seeing the content, it pretty sucks and makes it nearly impossible to work, best I can do is clear everything on firefox and try again. Chrome goes worst than ff on this

2 years later from the original question and things are in my opinion worse. Adwords online interface is unbearably slow and I do NOT have many campaigns.. actually just 3 campaigns and maybe 10 ads in total, for my small personal business..

It`s a nightmare to use adwords platform and I actually avoid it as much as possible... often i just get there once a month or so to make the payment and that`s all, see you next month.. i just dont have the nerve to dig for reports, make, change or try new stuff, try other keywords and all that when often the loading of a single page takes 15-30 seconds..  5gb ram, dual core e8400 and 200 mbps internet here, blazing fast internet on any other website..

in over two years i have accomplished a pretty good balance between clicks, costs, orders and my overall benefits and i just leave the account on its own.. fortunately  my niche is not fast moving, not fast changing and not at all overcrowded, so i get away with my sluggishness..

it`s a shame that one of the best engineers in the world -if not the best- are wrapping such a good core product (organic adwords, via search terms on google, really work in my case!) into such a bad packing that is the online adwords dashboard Smiley Sad
