Why is the AdWords remarketing tag active on my MCC interface ?

Hello,

I noticed that the MCC interface from AdWords runs a remarketing tag on me, the same tag code on every client I access.

Why is google using the adwords remarketing tag on MCC accounts ?

How is google going to use remarketing on client managers like me ?

Where is the remarketing disclaimer on the MCC interface ? I must have missed it.

Here is the code I see in the page source, once I access a client

</body></html>
<!-- Google Code for PXL - AdWords - AWFE - Campaigns Tab - Visit Past 30 Days Remarketing List --><script type="text/javascript">var google_conversion_id = 992540712;var google_conversion_language = "en";var google_conversion_format = "3";var google_conversion_color = "666666";var google_conversion_label = "Lo9GCIjGswMQqPCj2QM";var google_conversion_value = 0;</script><script type="text/javascript" src="https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/conversion.js"></script><noscript><div style="display:inline;"><img height="1" width="1" style="border-style:none;" alt=""src="https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/conversion/992540712/?label=Lo9GCIjGswMQqPCj2QM&amp;guid=ON&...
<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
var com_google_ads_apps_campaignmgmt_CampaignManagementRelease_serverDuration = 737;</script>

Thank you

I do see Google ads all the time though. And they are clearly remarketing ads as they are product specific and show up randomly all over the place irrespective of website I am currently on.

I guess that's why I have never been to curious about it. I do have a little chuckle when the ad is a product or feature that I already use Smiley Tongue.

Vouchers is one although not many. Shopping campaigns is big one. and then they just advertising the platform itself. I'll keep an eye for the next one I see and try and grab a screen shot.

Hi Adrian,

The Privacy Policy is at the bottom of the page. It deals with a wide range of data collection that could be used including cookies and such.

This is a link to the policy so you can see for yourself, otherwise just scroll right to the bottom and a link will be next to 'editorial guidelines':
http://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/privacy/

Hope this helps

Let's not rush into answering without thinking a little bit .

Let's read this :

What to include in your privacy policy for remarketing

"When you use the remarketing or similar audiences feature in your website, you're required to have the following information in your website's privacy policy:

  • An appropriate description of how you're using remarketing or similar audiences to advertise online.
  • A message about how third-party vendors, including Google, show your ads on sites across the Internet.
  • A message about how third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on someone's past visits to your website.
  • Information about how your visitors can opt out of Google's use of cookies by visiting Google's Ads Settings. Alternatively, you can point your visitors to opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies by visiting the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page. "

I am not seeing any rule above, implemented in the privacy policy from the MCC interface. do you ?

We can start from searching the first rule "An appropriate description of how you're using remarketing".

This is what I am asking : how is the MCC privacy policy describing how are they (google ) using remarketing, because they are obviously using the remarketing tag in my MCC.

All that information is in the link provided. I am not sure where the confusion comes in. There are various sections that refer to the collecting and use of the information they gather. 2 on the first page are below.

" We use the information we collect from all of our services to provide, maintain, protect and improve them, to develop new ones, and to protect Google and our users. We also use this information to offer you tailored content – like giving you more relevant search results and ads." - granted this is a little vague with regards to the remarketing tag but it is still a reference.

"We and our partners use various technologies to collect and store information when you visit a Google service, and this may include sending one or more cookies or anonymous identifiers to your device. We also use cookies and anonymous identifiers when you interact with services we offer to our partners, such as advertising services or Google features that may appear on other sites." This is not so vague, here they clearly state that they will use the cookies sent to your device to show you advertising services or other Google features.

Every other item on that list can be seen in the policy, either on the page or by following the links.While it may not spell out each and every type of gathering tool they use it tells you exactly what it does and how it uses the information in a holistic approach by grouping information gathering cookies and identifiers together.

Hope this helps.

" I am not sure where the confusion comes in. "

Here is where we have different opinions :  when a privacy policy for remarketing should explain more details as required.

Specifying the tools they use, like cookies, has nothing to do with specifying the PURPOSE of the usage of such tools which is required by the remarketing policy.

"An appropriate description of how you're using remarketing" means to me a requirement for declaring a purpose of the remarketing tag.

Also read this rule which should be in the Privacy Policy :

"A message about how third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on someone's past visits to your website."

I don't see anywhere in the privacy policy from the MCC interface this message about how third-party vendors use my past visits to the MCC website to serve me ads. Do you ?

Besides the fact that the MCC privacy policy has no specifics on how google uses the remarketing tag on the account admins, the best of all : see in that privacy policy the link for

http://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/privacy/#infochoices

  • Control who you share information with. "

If you click the Control link in the privacy policy , it sends you to the main help center page, which actually offers you  no control option over information sharing.

Clearly we feel differently about the privacy policy. Personally I believe it answers all the questions and supplies all the necessary information. Due to the generality of the policy with respect to how many things it refers to some of the information does seem a bit vague but clarification can be found be looking further into the policy.

With respect to both posts above:

"Google advertising cookies are used to enable features, such as Remarketing, for products like AdWords..."

" For more information about how Google uses advertising cookies, visit the Google Advertising Privacy FAQ. To manage settings for these cookies and opt-out of these features, visit the Ads Settings."

This privacy policy is the one used on many Google products and thus may not specifically mention how each and every tag on each and every product is used in specific ways. Rather it can be used in or more of the ways stated in the policy. Thus making the policy applicable to numerous products.

You are not curious at all about the "why" ?

That privacy policy starts with the phrase "What information we collect and why we collect it." and yet the why is never explained.

Did you ever see remarketing ads from google ?

In the case of a company site I would understand why a remarketing tag could be used for sales but in the case of the MCC interface usage, I simply don't understand why google might use the remarketing tag, what can Google sell to the administrators of AdWords accounts , through remarketing ?

I didn't visit the MCC interface to buy anything in the first place, why would google track me throughout sites with that remarketing tag if they don't intent to sell me anything ?

Ah, so their remarketing ads do run in certain countries, possibly not mine.

And what exactly does google try to push in these ads ? Vouchers ?
