When you upload a plain text .csv of email to Customer Match at what point does Google hash them?[ Edited ]

Looking to use Customer Match to use CRM data in AdWords campaigns however we have to ensure that only hashed email addresses are sent to servers outside of the UK.
With Facebook that's fine as it automatically hashes emails in the browser on upload - does adwords do the same to prevent plain text emails being transmitted? Or will we have to hash emails prior to uploading them in AdWords?

Hi @Frederick F
You have both the options available
- You may upload a list of email addresses that you have already hashed using the SHA256 algorithm, or
- Once you have uploaded list of e-mail addresses, AdWords will hash them for you using the same SHA256 algorithm, which is the industry standard for one-way hashing. Please note, hashing takes into account capitalization and spaces, so you'll need to prepare your email addresses in order for matching to work. Make all characters in the email addresses lowercase and remove any extra spaces before or after the email addresses.
