What if Google doesnt convert my ad to HTML5?

I am having a hard time finding information about what happens if Google DOESN'T convert my flash ad to HTML5?

Most of my ads have converted within AdWords and when I upload them through Editor. Why have some converted and some haven't? What is going on and how can I fix this issue?

Hmm.... Interesting, I would call support ask them to look into the account and the banners and try to figure the cause.

Although it took about 3 different interactions for this question to get answered, I sort of have an answer.

QUESTION: " I had a question about the HTML5 ads. Most of my ads have converted but some of them have not. I understand I am to re-upload the ads within Editor to make them convert but I do not want to lose my data. I was wondering WHY some of them have converted while others have not? I have ads that are from the same set and are the exact same size ads but one converted and one did not. Can you shed some light on what is going on here?"

"Is editor the easiest way to re-upload ads or is there a way around having to upload the one that did not convert automatically?"

ANSWER: "what i am hearing from our specialist is that the process is 100% automated and is based on the technical specs of the ad files. so if there was variation with how they were created (within AdWords, uploaded, etc) this can lead to variation
in whether or not they can be auto upgraded"

"just confirmed that the AdWords editor route is the best way to go. it's definitely too bad that all of the ads didn't auto upgrade, but you're very lucky you can resubmit them this way. others who don't have ads saved out of the interface have to manually recreate them 1 by 1 in some cases
by sept 1, remaining flash ads will see a drop in performance if not upgraded, so time is of the essence for sure"

*make sure you update your ads by september 1st!*

I've talked to even more reps and no one has an answer for me. My specs are perfect but still no luck in auto converting.

I haven't been able to re-upload the old ads. I have not been able to create new image adds. A rep suggested I use Swiffy but that didn't work for me online or in Adobe. Another suggested that I use Google Web developer and that didn't work either. I am at a complete loss of what to do.

Has anyone else been enduring this?

currently having the problem right now.

Swiffy can convert my files for me, but the online converter says theres an error (and doesn't tell me why)
https://developers.google.com/swiffy/convert/upload?hl=en

my understanding is if swiffy states theres an error - then adwords wont auto convert.

I am having the same issue as well!

I have Flash CS6 and CC, and it seems that no matter what combination of publish settings I use (flash 8, 9, 10, 11...etc etc... with as2 OR 3) Swiffy always spits out the same error:

"Caution: this conversion cannot be uploaded to AdWords or DoubleClick directly. If your SWF converts without errors, you can upload the SWF file directly to AdWords or DoubleClick, and they'll handle the conversions for you!"

Even ads that have no actionscript code whatsoever get that same error message. It would be really great if a google rep would answer this. What is the most failsafe publish setting in flash for conversion to HTML5 via Swiffy?

Hey Scott & Shawn,

A bit late to the party here but I thought I should share my experience with you guys. I too had faced the problem where some of my ads were being converted to HTML5 while some were not and I too went back and forth with my design team and multiple account and agency rep's to resolve this issue and one thing that I was certain about was that "Swiffy" is not 100% accurate way of understanding if your ads are going to be converted. In fact, if you read the guidelines properly, Google says "swiffy" will tell you if your ads is up to the mark when it comes to specs for being converted to HTML5 and is not something that assures that your ads will be converted.

The best way out of this predicament is to transition to HTML5. I realize this is a huge change for anyone and requires more development time but taking into consideration the recent update by Google where they are phasing out Flash ads altogether, you may want to make this transition as soon as possible. Check this link: https://www.en.advertisercommunity.com/t5/From-the-Community-Team/Last-Week-in-the-AdWords-Community...

or this page: Display Ads are going 100% HTML5 -- Starting June 30th, 2016, display ads in Flash can no longer be ...

Lastly, when you do transition make sure you use GWD to create your HTML5 ads. I had a lot of issues with my ads not recording clicks for days when they were created in the Adobe tool but when we shifted to GWD for development, the problem seemed to have been rectified. I was told by my Google Rep's that there was an issue with the Click Tag element in the ads and that need revision.

To be on the safer side we tested creatives developed on both platforms and found that the GWD creatives did not face any issue with the Click tags.

Hope this Helps!

Cheers

Thanks Shashank,

I have used GWD for some ads, and it is a great tool. But I have a client who loves the animations and effects flash is capable of (blurs, masking, etc.) and its disappointing to them that we can't really achieve the same "flashiness" for their banner ad's in HTML5.

I understand that these are the breaks though. HTML5 is the future of banner advertising, and I'm sure what with more time it will become more widely accepted. I think i may continue to experiment with actionscript 3 to html5 canvas conversions in flash cc though, to see if I can get things close to how flash was.

Thanks again for the reply.

Glad I could help out Shawn.

I would just like to say this again, the sooner you shift to HTML5, the better it will be for your campaign performance.

Hope this Helps!
