Using Ad Params through AdWords Editor

Hello,

I have searched for days -with no luck- for some examples or documentation on how specifically to manage ad params through AdWords Editor.

Can someone share examples, syntax or any kind of pointers? All the info I am able to find refers to the API, not the Editor.

Thanks so much!

HI

I am not sure about your question but let me explain how params work

Params are used to update numerical values in your adcopy dynamically.

In your adcopy you have to write {param1:default} where you want to display your dynamic numerical value (like price, stock, etc)

Then you have to write a code which dynamically pushes the numerical value to adwords using API

You can find API details here https://developers.google.com/adwords/api/docs/reference/latest/AdParamService.AdParam

I hope this helps

Hi Nik,

Thanks SO much for the super quick reply,

I did understand the output side of the params in the ad copy.

What I am struggling with, is how to input the data using AdWords Editor and not the API. From what I have read, this should be possible? In other words, how do I submit my numerical values using the desktop app, and not programatically through the API (which happens to be the only documentation that I seem to find).

Cheers

HI

The if you can update through adwords editor manually by find and replace the values in adwords editor Reg:http://support.google.com/adwords/editor/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=47657,

But the problem with that is your adcopies will be under review again and wont be live immidiately, Also i belive your QS will be calculated again for the edited adcopies (Not sure about QS point)

If you want to update the values seamlessly and without ads going for review again then you have to use API and coding help.

Hope this helps

Hi,

I believe AdWords Editor does support ad params:

http://support.google.com/adwords/editor/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=47654

http://support.google.com/adwords/editor/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=38660

"Ad parameters: AdWords Editor now supports this AdWords API feature everywhere dynamic keyword insertion is allowed: in ad headlines, description lines, and display URLs."

It is the HOW that I just cannot find.

You can't. Editor only supports ad params to the extent that it understands {param1:default} syntax in the ad text, and calculates text length correctly ( {param1:default} counts as 7 characters, rather than 16). But it doesn't manipulate actual param values.

To set ad param values, you have two options: AdWords API and AdWords scripting. If you can write JavaScript, the latter is reasonably easy.

Thanks. I had been searching for a confirmation of whether it could or could not be done directly through Editor. You've saved me a lot of frustration.
