Use of parameters and Google PLA´s

I do read things like : you need adwords_producttargedid valuetrack parameter to identify urls in Merchant Center Feeds.

But Google Adwords works with the gclid parameter for Google Analytics. So I think for Product listing Ads and Using Google Analytics you do not need the adwords_producttargedid.

Am I right?

Hi Elja G,

Could you please clarify what you mean here. I'm not too sure what you're asking?

Hi Alys,

It is about product listing Ads
And how to get the tracking from these ads in Google Analytics.

And I´am sorry, I connot point exact where the information came from.
I saw a youtube video of a seminar about product listing ads, but forgot which and where.

There they told that you need the adwords_producttargedid valuetrack parameter to track these ads.
As far as I did understood, you put the parameter somewhere in a field in the productfeed.

When I look in the help from merchant centre,
I cannot find it.
But I see a page here :
http://support.google.com/adwords/answer/2375447?hl=en

After hearing that all I started thinking. Adwords has the gclid parameter for tracking ads in Google Analytics.
I was always thinking that the gclid parameter worked with all Adwords ads.

Does the gclid parameter work with product ads?

How relates the story in the video about adwords_producttargedid and the gclid parameter?

Hi Elja,

Thanks for your reply, that makes the situation a lot clearer!

As far as I know to track PLAs you would need the adwords_producttargedid valuetrack parameter, but I'll double check that for you.

Hi Alys,

Thank you for what you did.

I see you send the question to an AdWords specialist.

In reaction to your actions, i just got a mail from the AdWords Support Team.

They tell me:

Right now the details around PLA ads in Google Analytics is limited. Yes PLA ads work with auto-tagging and you should see these campaigns reporting in Google Analytics. However you won't see dimensions and reports specific to PLA's in Google Analytics yet. We are working on improvising this and hoping that you will see some changes soon.

So i understand that they are tracked with the gclid parameter, but detailed information tracking we have to wait.

Or I think that probably for the detailed information you can use valuetrack parameter
