Setting up Remarketing for Search Network

Hello,

I've been active with managing Adwords for about a year now and have decided to venture into Remarketing! The account that I'm referencing has 5 different campaigns set up for 5 different lawn care services. The Adwords account is connected to my GA account which (I believe) has the correct permissions to collect data on visitors. I understand going into Shared Library > Audiences > +Remarketing List to get my code snippet and what not.... so here are my two questions:

1. Can you use the same code snippet for multiple campaigns that have different landing pages? - Last I talked with Google Support they explained that you will get altered data if you use the same code on different domains, and to keep your data clean you need to use different code snippets.

2. What is the correct process for setting up Remarketing? Do I go into Audiences > +Targeting first to create my lists, then get the code snippet? Or code snippet first then create lists?

Thank you in advance for any help!

Hi there,

Firstly, adding the code comes first. You then collect the data and define your audiences from that data! Smiley Happy

The easiest way to go about it, is to make sure you have Universal Analytics installed on your websites, and Remarketing enabled through Analytics. Having this set up will mean you don't actually need to install the old remarketing Adwords snippets if your Adwords and Analytics accounts are linked!

Then, once you have allowed time to collect your data you can define your audiences in the shared library and apply them to your campaigns. You can also do this within the +Targeting section of a campaign too, where there will be suggested audiences and now also "similar to" audiences to choose from.

If this is not the case however, and you don't have this set up with Adwords and Analytics yes you will need to add the snippets.

If you are using different domain names I would recommend they each have their own Analytics properties, along with their own remarketing snippets as well. Ideally you might have Adwords accounts for them separately, but sounds like you don't right now. Which is fine, but i'd recommend using labels on your ads/ad groups to clearly remind you where different landing pages/domains are being used. It can make reporting easier!

Do you have five different domains - One for each area of service? If this is all the same company, I have to wonder why?

Hey Tom,

One domain and then sub domains. We create landing pages her campaign since it's just one clear CTA. So one whole campaign is specific to Aeration or Grub Control.

Hi Abbie,

Thank you very much for your response, this was definitely helpful! Yes, each domain has their own GA property. So if I'm understanding correctly... if I have the GA connected to my Adwords account and the Remarketing feature is enabled, once this collects enough data (1,000 cookies for search and 100 users for display) I can then go into each campaign and utilize the audiences tab and create my lists through +Targeting? This will keep the data separate for each domain correct?

Thanks =)
