Remarketing - Does a user get removed from the list after converting

Hi Guys,

I was wondering about remarketing and list membership and can't seem to find an answer to it.

Suppose the following setup:

Remarketing list in Google Analytics tracking users that visited several pages on your website AND did not convert  (membership duration: 14 days) + a remarketing campaign in AdWords.

And this scenario:

After 3 days, user on the remarketing list clicks on a remarketing ad, visits the website AND converts. Would that user then get removed from the remarketing list since he converted and doesn't match the list requirements anymore, or will he stay a member for the remaining 11 days?

Thanks!

Ken

Hi, Ken.

The cookie will still be active even after converting, so he will stay a member of that list. However, you may want to use a negative audience (people who converted) in order to achieve what you (probably) want.

I have a similar question that gets a little more technical:

Suppose I create a rule-based audience with the single rule that property `abc`=true. I then set this property for users using custom dynamic remarketing properties on the client-side google adwords api.

My question is whether users who were previously on the list will be removed when i set `abc`=false for their cookie?

I assume they will be, and that it is not necessary to create another negative rule for the list that says `abc!=false`? Or is creating this negative rule the only way to achieve this?

let me know if i need to clarify what i'm talking about here.

Hello, Ralph. You will still need a negative audience to achieve that. Otherwise you may have someone on both lists. Quick example: I am on the true list (30 days) and on day 2 I become a member of the false list. The result is that for 29 days I'll be a member of both. The list membership is only cancelled after the list expires, hence the need for negative audiences.
