RLSA Hierarchy

How does Google determine which RLSA audience a user falls into when they are included in multiple, overlapping RLSA audiences?

For Example:

You have 3 audiences set up to collect users who have visited 3 specific pages on your website.

If a user visits all of them and then types in a query that matches one of your keywords that have all 3 audiences assigned to the Ad Group that the keyword is assigned under, then how does Google count this Impression? (Bearing in mind that there are no audience based bid adjustments in place at this moment in time as we're collecting data)

Does Google double count this when reporting back in the interface? (It doesn't look like they do after doing some calculations)

Or do they prioritise 1 audience over the others? If so then how would they do this?

@Perry R

It's the other way round: Only one ad form per account will be shown on SERP.

If  a user on the SERP list runs a search, and the query is matched to the one of the KWs  on the SERP campaign, and this KW triggers an ad, then the ad will be shown to the user.

Which ad is shown is determined by the  campaign ad rotation setting.

I think the question was:

If I have 3 different audiences in the SAME ad group, and a user happens to be on two of those lists, how does that get reported in the Audience tab?

Would AdWords report an impression for both relevant audiences, or only in one of them?

Only once per the one list: the RLSA list, on the campaign with the KW which triggered the ad .

Yes. Michael is right:

Hi,

I still don't think this question has been answered and I'd be interested to hear more about this.

Mosche, it's not clear from you reply if you're saying that the 3 RLSA audiences in which the user is will each be credited with 1 impression? The result would be reporting 3 impressions when there was in fact only 1?

Thanks

Jack;
You would agree that though the user is on a number of lists, the ad was shown only once following a  search query submitted by the user. (There was only one query that was matched to a keyword , which triggered the ad) Hence, only one impression is recorded.

Which audience would this Impression get attributed to though?

If the user was included in all 3 RLSA audiences then how would Google decide which one to report an Impression against in the Audiences tab?

@Perry R;

To the tag based list (the "core" list ) - all other lists are rule based.

But let me double check on that with two of our code specialists;

@Ratan-Jha?

@ShashankSingh?
