Localized, dynamic desination URLs

I’m creating a campaign that uses ad customizer to generate localized ad copy for a franchise with a few hundred US locations. This campaign will match keywords such as “toy store baltimore” with dynamic ad text that replaces the headline from “toystorebrand {location}” to “toystorebrand baltimore”. My question is – how do I implement dynamic destination URLs to send users to store locations pages on the website that follow the format where XXXXX is a US zip code? Let’s say there are 200 franchises scattered around the US, and the campaign will target the entirety of the United States. Does this involve AdWords API? Does this involve lookups that convert a city name into a zip code?

Thanks in advance.

Have you considered using MaxMind's GeoIP service?

There are several API's that you can use to send the visitors IP address and the API will return their location/city. You can then redirect the user to the correct landing page based on the result.

Alternatively there is also a module for Apache called 'mod_geoip' that will do this for you based on rules you specify in .htaccess

.. Or you could duplicate the campaign 200 times, change the location settings for each and set the destination URL in each advert.

You could then create a US wide "keyword targeted" campaign and set destination URLs for the keywords, i.e. +toy +store +baltimore with the destination url:

Anyway I hope that is of some help

All the best,
