Keyword Insertion capitalization

Hello,

Following the documentation found at: https://support.google.com/adwords/certification/answer/2454041?hl=en

With the keyword being: dark chocolate

I just want to ask about the specific capitalization adjustment for KEYWORD insertion:

Buy {KEYWORD:Chocolate} Candy

Buy Dark Chocolate Candy

The first letter of each word (initial capitalization)

It says that "The first letter of each word (initial capitalization)", so is it exactly the same as using the KeyWord?

Buy {KeyWord:Chocolate} Candy

Buy Dark Chocolate Candy

The first letter of each word (initial capitalization)

In many other unofficial sources I keep seeing that:

KEYWORD – Every letter is capitalized

so according to them it would be:

Buy {KEYWORD:Chocolate} Candy

Buy DARK CHOCOLATE Candy

Every letter is capitalized

Which one is correct?

I know about the guidelines (AdWords editorial standards still apply, which means that an ad can't include excessive capitalization such as BUY DARK CHOCOLATE.) but I still want to know what happens when you enter KEYWORD.

Thanks,

Gordon James Campbell

Hi Gordon,

If KEYWORD were to do DKI in all caps, that would be violating the excessive capitalization rule, so, no that won't make your ad say BUY DARK CHOCOLATE candy.

From this page: https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/2454041

Buy {KEYWORD:Chocolate} Candy Buy Abc Candy The first letter of each word (initial capitalization)

Best of Luck!

Hi Gordon,

I'm just quoting from the Google documentation here. If you don't believe it, try it out for yourself. Make an ad with DKI as {KEYWORD:Chocolate}. Then use the Ad Preview tool with your keyword and see what happens.

Perhaps the tool did work that way at one time, but it does not work that way now. At one time, I could enter my display domain in all caps, not any more.

BTW, there are quite a few things in AdWords that a lot of people get wrong.

Best of Luck!

I've taken the initiative to get a REAL answer... not some made-up "Maybe" answer.

Here is the official answer. The source is someone from the specialist team at Adwords.

-- Previously, this was an instance where, keywords used to be displayed in all caps as per the criteria {KEYWORD: . As this was resulting in an unfair advantage to the advertisers using Dynamic Keyword Insertion, policies were updated.
-- Per the changes, we no longer show any keyword insertion in all capital letters, irrespective of the "Dynamic Keyword Insertion" status.

Hence, I confirm that using the keyword insertion in all capital letters will not result in showing your ad text in all capital letters. Further, I confirm that the help center article was purposefully updated in such a way that, it will set an example of any queries as this.

---End Answer---

Hope this helps Gordon.

Hi Gordon,

The second case is correct.

I am already using in campaigns
Like

{KeyWord: Buy Chocolate Candy}

and it shows the result like

Buy Dark Chocolate Candy

The first letter of each word (initial capitalization)

So i think that its Typo Mistake.

So we need to consult Google Team to Correct This.

Thanks for your answer, Rakesh.

I'm actually interested in knowing what happens with KEYWORD. I think the use of KeyWord is pretty clear. My confusion with KEYWORD is generated by the official documentation example and guidelines, versus other documentation and the logic of having the hole word in uppercase. I would like to believe that by using KEYWORD the outcome would be DARK CHOCOLATE, but the official documentation says otherwise.

Well, the output would be Buy DARK CHOCOLATE candy.

But I understand what you're saying. I guess a lot of people have got it wrong then.

Hi Gordon,

Those Keyword insertion variations KEYWORD:, KEYword:, keyWORD,..) used to be accepted before by Google.. They don´t work anymore since Google has updated their policies regarding All caps.

Now they only need to update that text in the support. Unfortunately, Google is rapidly rolling out a lot of changes, and it´s a known fact most help/docs pages are outdated.

I see Michael - what's the best way to keep track of the changes? Is there an official change log?
