Is it possible yet to target gmail ads by sender domain?

After the recent announcement (Jun'17) that states that Google will stop reading emails for Gmail ads I wanted to know if it will still be possible for us to target Gmail ads by sender domain?

Reference for the news:

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-06-23/google-will-stop-reading-your-emails-for-gmail-ad...

I want to show ads on Gmail to people who receive emails from a specific set of domains

In addition, after this change, how do we target gmail ads if it's not content/sender domain?

Hey Santosh,

So as far as i can tell the implementation has not yet occurred but according the following Blog Post GSP will target by: "Ads shown are based on users’ settings. Users can change those settings at any time, including disabling ads personalization."

What exactly Ads shown are based on users’ settings is currently unclear but i believe it will work the same way interest based targeting works.

Interest based targeting works by the following: "Adding audiences allows you to reach people based on their specific interests as they browse pages, apps, channels, videos, and content across YouTube and the Google Display Network as well as on YouTube search results. You can select from a wide range of categories -- from autos and sports to travel and fashion -- and we'll show ads to people who are likely to be interested. Depending on your advertising goals and the stage of the purchase process your customers are in, you can choose to add different audiences to your ad groups."

I hope that answers your question!

Thanks for the response Josh!

What you've said makes sense.

There's also a reference to the change happening later this year in the post

"G Suite’s Gmail is already not used as input for ads personalization, and Google has decided to follow suit later this year in our free consumer Gmail service."
