Is it possible to have a Display network with CPM and also use CPC

I am unclear on CPM and CPC bidding in the Display network.

I have set up a display network campaign with CPM bidding.

I am trying to set a keyword Max CPC. bid.

What I have done is:

I check the box next to one of my keywords and then > Click: Edit  > I Select: Change max. CPC bids.

and it opens > Action  Set max. C.P.C. bids to: I enter a bid of $5.00 and press Make changes.

But I do not see a column or  anywhere else that Adwords registers my bid. I have tried adding a column but I cannot see  a Max CPC bid column.

My question is  has Adwords saved the bid or not?

If Adwords does save it where can I go to see it?

Hello Jacl

In a CPM campaign you cannot save a CPC bid.

If you have a CPM campaign you work with CPM bidding.
It should not be possible to put a CPC bit in a CPM campaign.

Did you choose the campaign settings:
Campaign type - Display Network only
Bid strategy - Focus on impressions . use maximum CPM bids

Then you can set in the Adgroups a Max CPM bid

You can only set specific Max CPM bids to the custom targeting option.
The other targeting options use the standard adgroup CMP bid.
There can only be one custom targeting option.
(keywords or placements ore topics of interest or gender or age)

If you want different CPM-bids for different keywords, then you have to make keywords the custom bid.

As far as I can see bid adjustments are only enabled for display Campaigns with CPC bidding, and not with CPM bidding.

Hi Elja G
Thanks for the reply,

My my confusion is coming from the fact that what I have seen Adwords do is change the available options based on campaign settings.

In this case as I mentioned I setup my campaign with Display network only and CPM bidding. I thought by selecting CPM bidding it would eliminate the CPC bidding option when editing a keyword.

This raises another question with CPM bidding:
If someone clicks on my an ad in a Display only network campaign with CPM bidding,

How is the click paid for?
Where do I set the amount to pay for clicks on that ad?

Hi Jacl

CPM bidding means that you pay based on the number of impressions (times your ads are shown) that you receive on the Google Display Network. You set a maximum CPM (or "max CPM") bid as the highest amount that you're willing to pay for 1000 views of your ad.
It works a kind of the same way as with CPC bidding, but it is about impressions, and you pay for impressions.

CPM bidding:

You set a overall CPM bid at adgroup level :

OR

You can set specific bids on your custom targeting :

In this example the placements targeting. But you could set another targeting as your custom targeting source.
